Bloke down the road has a 04 650 for sale and I had a test ride on it. Engine is pretty much all you could need for everyday speeding, front end was good but the rear end was like a solid rod.
Are they like this normally? The preload was up a fair bit I guess but the bike was obviously just a use in all weathers and give no fucks bike despite the 12 months I'd got on it. Quite scruffy overall and I guess I could ride it all summer but it would need as much work as the KTM over winter. Not sure if I can be fucked with that again.

Do you have any photos of it? How much is he asking for it?

They have a good reputation, solid bikes, but never ridden/owned one. Mate had the SV1000, liked it a lot.

It's 'scruffy' again. The problem with the pics he took is it looked fine but as soon as it came out I could tell it's never been protected against the elements. The plastics are ok, it's the engine casings and oil cooler that look like shit. Brakes aren't too bad but they didn't feel as good as KTM but better than the VFR ones.
He's got it on for 1900 which is a no from me. Stupidly said he'd been offered 1400 on it. So that is basically my highest offer. At £1400 I sort of don't care if it's a bit challenged as I did like it on first impression and maybe a winter strip down and new rear shock would turn it into a decent bike. Stick some fresh discs on and rebuild the calipers as well as change the fork oil.
I don't know. I think for another £500 I could find something a lot cleaner to start with.

I also don't place a massive amount of value on bikes. I don't polish the fuckers like family ornaments. My local roads don't have massive straights so I don't need massive straightline speed. An SV or even a CBR400 would be enough. When I had clear roads the other day even the KTM was enough. I was just waiting a bit longer between bends. The power is most useful clearing lines of cars. The VFR went like fuck in straight line but I rarely took it past 8-9k in the bends.
MRO Supertwins were doing 1.38s around Cadwell on standard engines. About 0.8s difference to 1/4 between a SV650 and GSXR600. Real world difference between a lot of bikes is not much really.
STOP BIKE SHAMING ME ANYWAY. BET YOU DON'T HAVE ONE OF THE LATEST NVIDIA GRAPHICS CARDS!

STOP BIKE SHAMING ME ANYWAY. BET YOU DON'T HAVE ONE OF THE LATEST NVIDIA GRAPHICS CARDS! Yeah, you've probably got me bang to rights there. The best I can do is an Nvidia GeForce M450 2GB in my laptop (I had to look that up by the way, I had no idea what was in there) which is probably akin to a rusty SV650 with shite brakes in the IT / gaming world.

It's not even that. Chinese 125. No Cyberpunk or VR sim racing for you. Think about that for while.

Even £1400 sounds a tad pricey to me if it is tatty. I'm always looking out for cheap cars to buy and do a quick flip on for profit and I've noticed that since the pandemic, people are asking silly prices. Cars I usually see for £400 are being touted for £700. Maybe it's the same with bikes right now?

Oddly prices on zxr and cbr400s have crashed. People aren't even getting 2500.
The bottom end has been raised though. Even shit like Suzuki teapots and Rf600s are starting higher than expected.
Tbh, this bike could well end up my commuting bike as we are thinking of going down to one car now my wife is working from home and we don't 'need' two cars.

I bought the wife an SV650 when they were new out. I have to say, any time I "borrowed" it I had a tremendous time. Small, light, enough torque but you could really thrash the cunt without hitting jail speeds. Can't do that on my 'Blade.
In hindsight, a litre twin is probably the best compromise. All the torque, probably just about enough top end but none of the frustration you get from owning performance that you have zero chance of accessing.

I may stretch to what I was going to pay for a CBR400 and get something like Falco or SV1000. Maybe. I think work is due to announce overtime is back on so that's about 4k a year to spend on what I want. If the weather is shite then I'll do more of it.
The main problem is I'm a tight cunt. It really pains me to spend money. There is also an element of liking fixing things as well. At least I ride them though. The guy next door is constantly making street fighter things and never rides them.
