Even my wife is telling me just to spend more money and get something better when she saw a 675 speed triple. Wise words grasshopper...

If I was going for something older & didn't have a wedge of money I'd go Honda every time. Age is where quality & finish comes into its own. Something like a CBR 600f or go to 3.5K and you'll get an RR.

I'm not sure if 600RR is too extreme. The thing is pure race, the way the tank is shaped for you to get into a tuck and they have smaller wheelbase than a cbr400. Never even sat on one but it looks like it would uncomfortable in any position other than giving it some all the time.

When the last pre-FI Fireblade came out it was panned for being too boring, particularly as the R1 had moved the goalposts but it was one of the best bikes I ever owned. 50k miles without missing a beat and was completely transformed by a dynojet kit and a full system.
Bulletproof and a perfectly adequate 125hp at the wheel.

Just read an article in April’s Practical Sportsbike mag about restoring early Fireblades. Some loons were spending 7k getting them ultra standard but one guy who wasn’t fussed did a resto for a grand after paying £475 for his. Rattle can paint but it looked like a shit load of bike for that kind of money. 95 model

475 quid?
For a running Fireblade? And you lot moan about second hand prices? A running Fireblade over here is worth 2k all day every day.

The only drawback with those bikes are that tyre choice is limited for the 16 inch front.
I've still got mine. It's at the back of the lock-up in a very shoddy state. I should get the cunt running again.

Thinking maybe CBR600 99-00 or a 2001-2006 one for some more brass. Didn't realise they were 168kg which is about 40 less than the VFR was. Decent prices as well. They are little boring but no doubt they will be a steady bike. A lot of them seem in pretty good condition.

Off to look at CBR600 FY tonight. Last of the carbs and I think they've been cleaned. It's £2500 but has only 11k miles on it and looks like as a whistle. I'd pay that for a low mileage Honda. My local dealer is charging £2800 for S2 Fazers with 30k on the clock.

Is that a 2000 model?
I paid about that for my 2005 GSXR a few years ago and that was here in Spain where used prices are high, and I bought it from an official Suzuki dealer with warranty. Admittedly it wasn't "mint".
Sounds like strong money for a private UK 21 year old bike....

Yeah. Market is odd at the moment. For £1600, the cheapest same model, you get scraped fairings and 38k and no service history. £2000 gets you something better but still with high mileage and a horrible custom paintjob. I think if he takes £2200 it will be fair do. Dealers are wanting £3000 for similar. It's got fresh consumables on it so that's something. The £1600 one had advistory for tyres so that's money back in straight away.
There's a 29k naked 2008 FZ at my local dealer for £2800 but I'm not sure if he's one of those cunts that puts on admin fees.
I'd imagine if it's sporty enough but yet toury enough I won't be looking at another bike for a while.

More disappointment. Another case of the ebay photo filter. Bike was nothing like as clean as it looked. The 2600 he wanted was laughable. Didn't really like the cockpit either, bars felt very narrow. At least the SV felt instantly rideable.

I now own an sv650s. 2005 with 17k on the clock. Bloke has been doing bugger all mileage on it for last 7 years. Had about 1500 miles on since last valve clearance check.
Front end is too soft for me but that's easy sorted as I'll change fork oil ASAP and also the brakes are bit wooden, probwbly from underused as the guy admitted he was a slow rider and cruised at low speed.
