We'd get warmed up on the 5 minute ride from camp to the autobahn and just loiter at normal speeds in the slow lane waiting for any car that had the taps open then take off after them. Man, I used to love those nights. I wouldn't ride like that now though. So that's where the last knocking qualifying session shenanigans can be traced back to!

Ordered a set of Bridgestone S21s to be fitted at dawn on the day.
Bet it fucking rains.

That's the spirit Clipster!!....total confidence! you'll be grand. If you knew my track record (pun intended) you'd get my pessimistic / realistic outlook... if I ignore my 50cc racing years, my big bike track days have gone like this: First and only "track day" in the UK before self-Brexiting: RAF Benson, after a few sessions my bike got an electrical fault (later traced to the fuse in the aftermarket alarm), % of track time actually enjoyed; about 80% First track day in Spain: a prize in a raffle after buying some tyres: Jerez, had to beg for the day off work as it was midweek, the day before I go down with a fever and couldn't go, % of track time actually enjoyed; 0% Second track day in Spain: a 2 day riding course in Kotarr (small circuit in Burgos), went and sat through the theory part all day Saturday, got a stomach bug and spent the night vomitting and shitting and had to ride hoe without having even turned a wheel on the track, % of track time actually enjoyed; 0% I did then manage a couple of track days at Jarama without incident but the last time I crashed on the out lap and missed a few sessions while I taped up the fairing and got the stones out of every nook and cranny of the bike, % of track time actually enjoyed; about 40% So going by that, if I actually get there, go out in every session and don't crash it´ll be a total success!!

The first long ride that I'm going on when allowed (after April 12th?) is going to be here - Oakeley Arms Hotel; goo.gl/maps/145qk7vxW6dUmtoK7A 275 mile round trip should blow the cobwebs out 😉

Bloody he'll I'm fucked today!
I did all the sessions I could at Jarama yesterday. 4 monitored by a pretty good tutor who competes in a national Supersport class, and two free sessions.
In the first free session it spat with rain a bit so it was easy going, but I did manage to touch my knee lightly while I still had rain spots on the visor and screen which I impressed myself with!
The last session I went flat out and it was great, but today my thighs and my neck muscles ache like I've been set on with a baseball bat.

Oh well, there goes that Repsol ride ;-) 15 minutes riding round Catalunya and I was whacked...ok, it was 35C so I’ll cut myself some slack but still....the fitness levels needed to ride a bike fast around a circuit lap after lap is above my pay grade!!

Bloody he'll I'm fucked today! I did all the sessions I could at Jarama yesterday I'd love to do Jarama, but I hear that there are some quite severe noise restrictions at the circuit; I can't see my club going there if that's the case. They are allowed a certain number of "full noise" days, but usually they are reserved for competition events because it is still homolgated for some racing, like trucks. Normal procedure is that they measure the noise of your bike before you go out and tell you at what revs you can pass through the noise restricted zone. They put a sticker on your bike with your rev limit. I put in my dB killer and was told verbally that I didn't have to back off at all, but the sticker said 6k. The noise limited section is about 50m long, exiting a 3rd gear right hander. With the monitor, he was making us short shift from 3rd to 6th, timing the shift to 6th with passing the noise level machinery, but in the last free session when nobody really gives a fuck I was ignoring it completely, passing it hard on the gas in 4th at about 10k and nobody said anything. That said, if you turn up with an open pipe and ignore your rev limit they will black flag you. Repeat and you could be kicked out. It sucks, but I still like the track enough for it to not spoil the day.

Good stuff lad.
I remember when my pipe split open at Cadwell it was loud as fuck but because scrutineer people do things to the letter he took the decibel reading from inside the end can same as everyone else. Fucked my top end though, lost 20mph on park straight.

Nice one Clipper. Nothing gives a buzz like spanking your bike around the track.
Donington Park was tight on noise limits. They have a meter installed and if it trips too many times they get fined. I did a day there once and someone rang the council to complain about the noise so they sent someone along. Seems someone with an open pipe was dawdling part the meter to keep the noise down then gunning it everywhere else. When the council bloke arrived there was no action going on as some twat (me) had binned it and red flagged the session. As it the very last session with just a couple of minutes left it wasnt restarted. The council bloke looked at the meter output and went away happy.
Castle Coombe was even tighter on noise regs. Once the instructors Ducati with standard can on failed the noise test so I let him borrow my bike to do the sighting laps at the start of the day. I remember someone had a decibel killer rammed in the can and and it got spat out down the straight, I saw it bouncing down the track. Bloody dangerous.
Ginters lives near Donington and has a track day bike. I guess he is in the fast group but makes the others look like novices.

I have never understood why there are noise restrictions at a track which is in the flight path of a busy international airport.
Castle Combe is really strict. My GSX-R750K5 only passes if I slowly increase the revs to the 3/4 x redline measuring point, with a 102.5dB. If I crack the throttle open then balance it to show 10.5K, it'll fail. When I did the latter with my old GSX-R600WW, during my first trackday at The Combe, it scraped through at 104.5dB; my mate's NC30 was a whisper at 95dB.
I'm hoping to get a couple of track days in this year; the first will probably be at Castle Combe with a couple of trackday virgin mates. I'm looking at either Donington or Silverstone for the second; I've never done one at the former, but I haven't been back to the latter since the new layout was put in place.

Don't forget the Croft debacle. Move next to a circuit then complain about the noise. Cunts. I'm not against noise restrictions as such as long your bike still sounds fruity. TBH I was very disappointed with the exhaust on the VFR, it sounded fucking great if you got off and got some other cunt to rev your engine but when I was onboard the overriding noise was just gear driven cams and you couldn't hear the exhaust at all. Only sounded good in tunnel. OH well at least people following would get to appreciate that V4 sound.
