If I was going for a "classic" the SP1 would be my choice, if I had the spare cash, but I think they are only going to increase in value. I like the Ducati 999 too, a bit ahead of its time design-wise and still looks the part today. An ex-colleague is selling his SP2 if you're interested; Maxton rear shock, Maxton front fork internals/upgrades, full race exhaust from Japan somewhere, plus a load of extras. He hardly ever rides the thing and pretty much only gets it out of the garage once a year for an MoT. I thought that the 999 was universally slated for it's looks, mainly because it wasn't a 916/996/998.

I fancy getting a bike early next year. Either a project track bike or something to ride on the roads. Track bike would be a two stroke of a big single. Road bike wise I like the idea of a KTM 390 that's a couple of years old or an old superbike 2001 - 2006 vintage that needs a bit of work. Obviously if I could afford it I'd go for a Honda RC213V-S. How do you fancy a Honda NC24 in Rothamans colours as a project bike? It needs a look of work as it has been sitting outside, neglected for the past 11.5 years.

Do you have a photo of it Neil and how much you would want for it?

Do you have a photo of it Neil and how much you would want for it? I'll get something sort this evening Droog, or I'll get the wife to take a pic, then PM you; it's her bike and we can't afford to repair it. I've been trying to find an equivalent condition on-line to get an idea of price; pristine examples are going for over £2K

The NC24 was always a no-man's land type bike. The style isn't brutalist enough to sit in with other slab-sided things of the era and looks wise it just wasn't cool with the exhaust on the wrong side and obviously the NC30 was just a little RC30. The NC30 was kind of the perfect 400 and it's hard to look past that if you must have a 400cc v4. It's a bit like riding a Thunderace but you know the R1 is where it's at.
Wish I'd never sold my NC30, it was the only bike I really ever had full confidence in. It's still going looking at the MOT history site. Lucky bastard. Treat her well.

I know what you mean styling wise, but the Rothmans colours make up for it. I used to have a hoot on it on the way to work; there's a b-road between Gloucester and Malvern, which cuts across Castlemorton Common, which I couldn't go much quicker on when riding my 750. Where as the 750 would be picking up the front coming out of tight corners, on the 400 you would just keep it pinned. The Scorpion exhaust made a lovely sound!
