Fancied an SDR200 for years but anytime I have been in a position to have one, it's been a shed and well overpriced. Still love a v twin TZR250 but I'm not paying over £6000 for one that will need work.

Bike prices have gone crackers the past couple of years. Anything grey import is now worth loads more than when they were imported into the country years ago. My holy stroker grail would be a MC28 smart card NSR250 but good luck even finding one for a sensible price.
Is a stroker cafe racer an acceptable thing?

Maybe not to a purist but fuck them. Build whatever you want. At some point I will build a rat bike Mad Max style old shitter and terrorise Max power type car wankers on it up and down the A13.

Nice job. Yes the AM 50 cc engine is tuneable. you can use them for classic racing with a look-a-like shroud. Real classic 50cc parts are getting hard to find today. Saw a classic 50cc racer with a AM engine with custom crank cases, side entry carb with disk valve, went like stink. Take is racing www.classic50ccracingclub.co.uk/

I'd also love a proper 125GP bike. Fuck there's loads of bike I'd love. But not for the road. Saying that I've toyed with getting a KTM RC390 as I reckon they could be fun as a road bike for about 4 weeks of the year.

125gp's are so good, but some parts are getting a bit thin. Bikes are going for quite high prices. Should have kept mine...

Me niether. When I first moved over to the BSB paddock in 1997, I was shocked at how scruffy some of the bikes and teams were compared to British championship MX where I'd been working for a few seasons previously.
To be fair, I never worked for any big budget teams but outside of a few well funded superbike and GP250 teams, most were pretty shabby. Supersport where I worked that year were a bunch of pikeys bar about 3 teams. That was the year Toseland broke through and even his Mick Corrigan run set-up was a bit shanty town.
Things have moved on significantly nowadays though where more money is spent on paddock and awning presentation than the bikes. Which in itself is a little bit sad.

Fuck me Droog, Ebay is a minefield of shit with very loose descriptions. Trying to find something worthwhile working on but they are all sleeper piles of shit. Thing is loads of shit gets through the MOT but doesn't run properly when you start to ask more questions. Bullshit like "probably just needs fresh fuel or good run out". Fuck off, you've just rebuilt a bike but somehow don't know enough to know what it will take to get it run ok. Shamsters everywhere.
Kind of looking for something like a xj550 or zephyr with ok engine as I really can't be arsed going beyond a carb clean. Don't care about pulling the rest it to pieces as it's just nuts and bolts.
May give up and just buy this NC31 CB400SF I've seen for about £1200 and do a tail chop on it.
How much did all your powder coating set you back?

I've not taken the bits yet as some of them like the front fairing mount were damaged so I had to get another one. I'm tempted to just clean and paint them myself as everything I've done so far has came out really well. Not sure about the wheels though? I'm looking at buying my own sand blaster also. Using acid etch primer and the weather being so hot has definitely helped. Everything on eBay is a gamble. About 50% of the secondhand parts I've ordered I have refused and got my money back. They always claim it's a mistake but they all just send out shit wanting top money.

Droog opinions needed again.
Seen a few things I like. NC31 cb400sf - not exciting as such but probably reliable and built to last £1100 and probaby an easy chop at the back to make that cafe style.
Suzuki 350 goose - I don't know, it's just tugging at me despite being something and nothing. Souped DR350 engine and a bit of cafe style. Head tells me it barely goes 100, only does 60 in about 8 but it looks so damn good and is something different. Would probably not even mod. £1350.
Last and possbily least - Honda CB650F from the 80s. Already semi messed with so no guilt over butchering a classic but has the best exhaust note. Real rorty Mad Max 1 sort of sounds. Had a lot of fairly new parts on it as well. That engine sound......£750
