I'm fully comp Droog so insurance will cover it for me cheers. I also live close to an Aprilia specialist so in that respect im good. I've no idea if its a write off - I'd guess at yes as where do you even source the fairings and bodywork for a '96 Chesterfield from. I think the forks and frame are ok. Had it accessed this week, just waiting for the report to come back.

Show me a photo of how it looks now Mr. But it does sound like it will be written off. Parts are available and they are sometimes cheaper than you think new. Bound to be a Chinese pattern full painted bodywork kit (excluding tank) on eBay. From what I hear, they are decent quality for the price.

Right despite still needing to do things like run the electric and finish off the bench and shelving, I got stuck into the little aprilia today. Full strip down and getting a pile of parts ready to go to the powder coaters. As per usual it fought me all the way. Plenty of seized or rounded off bolts. The swinging arm bolt was seized solid so I had to hacksaw through the bolt. I could have removed the remaining middle section of the bolt from the arm but I noticed there was a huge groove cut into the arm where a rear sprocket bolt had come loose at some point. I will source a new one from the bay. Frame, swinging arm and wheels plus loads of other chassis parts will be finished in satin black at the powder coaters. Forks need re chroming but it is cheaper to buy a second hand good set off of eBay. Handily they used the same forks on the newer four stroke aprilia RS4 125. Plenty on there in excellent condition for £150. Once I get things a bit more organised, I will do some step by step photos. Couple of quick snaps from today's session.

And the right handlebar has taken a hit. Front fairing cracked abit. Arrow end cans scratched to shit. Tail unit lightly scratched. Tank was pulled off and scratched. Left hand side fairing didnt escape either and has some small scuffs on it. Pics below so you get the idea. I'm not interested in getting it back on the road without genuine original parts. So yes, Im guessing its a write off. Might make a good purchase if they offer me a decent buy back price with a long term view of hoping the parts come up or for simply for someone else who wants a crack at it. Its only got 7k miles on it. I still cant believe i have trashed such a rare bike. Im currrently not speaking to myself.

Buy it back and track day it. Would be a lot of fun. I would love something like that for trackdays. Loads less maintenance then a proper TZ or RS but only slightly less fun for a novice rider.

Had to do some aluminium welding on the frame and swingarm. Once I have cleaned it all up it can be powder coated. Hopefully get that done over weekend but I have to build an outdoor bar in the garden for the missus, attend a birthday gathering for a dear friend and do something else for my mussus as it's our anniversary. In short I think I'm gonna be busy. Power in super shed now and tried out my compressor and spray gun. All good. Just need a bench vice and a load of storage shelving.

Be honest Droog, this "Aprilia project" is just a cover for you building a man-cave type hideout isn't it?

I'm currently watching WSB in the garden as I build an outside bar for my missus. It has got a fair bit bigger than originally planned lol. We do love a party here though. Doing a bit on the bike after the racing. Got my bench vice now also.
