Too good to vandalise with silly cafe plans. Going to leave stock and learn to ride again. Promised my wife I wouldn't be a twat and end up in a casket so VFR with luggage is probably as sensible as it gets. Will have to start drinking real ale and talking about valve clearances.
Hoping I'll just hop on and it will all come flooding back. Then again I've been riding BMX, MTB and road cycles since I stopped motorbikes so it's not like I've been off 2 wheels. 50mph downhill on a road bike with lycra is pretty scary.
I'll stop ruining Droogs thread now since I'll not be building anything myself!

I have a soft spot for them. One of the first new bikes I built up when I did my YTS in a Honda dealers back in 1991 was a VFR750. Funnily enough, I had to fit luggage side racks to it for the customer as well.

Got the front sub-frame painted, fitted and clocks mounted. Front wheel is ready to paint but due to the weather I can't do it today. Rear wheel still need more prep. Years of chain lube proving impossible to shift. Will go at it again tomorrow.

What are you using to spray Droog? I got one of those HVLP sprayers but I've never used it. I had some daft plastidip idea for the car once.

Just rattle cans so far. I have a compressor and spray gun but the finish on parts like these are fine using cans. Always use acid etch though.

What's the finish like for durability? How many coats do you put on and then are you laquering?
My spray skills are poor, always seem to go too heavy. Years and years ago I did have a compressor and spray gun and did the wing on my golf but it looked shit and orange peelish. Once I've got a year on the insurance I'll swap companies (no mods, not even paint with current) and get a RC45 rep rear end and spray to match. VFR rears are ugly as fuck.

Coats wise it depends? I aim to put on a lot of paint but not too fast and allow about 10 minutes between coats for the paint to flash off. For example, the cans I am using are 500ml. I use about one can of acid etch primer per wheel. I then put on over one and a half cans per wheel of top coat. Nearly two on the rear wheel as it is larger. That is plenty of paint for a wheel. Smaller parts I just paint until I am satisfied there is good even coverage and enough paint to protect. I don't use a lacquer unless painting bodywork or a tank. I will be using my spray gun for those items.
Forks arrived today. I got a bargain. Only issue is that the fork tubes are about an inch longer. Didn't spot that with my naked eye. It all fits though but means the forks are going to protrude above the top yoke for that race bike effect.

Looking good. At least you got something done.

Sweet choice Meeks, spend yer money on suspension & brake refurb + decent tyres to embarrass badly ridden sportsbikes. It soo pisses them off being done by a tourer. Trawl ebay for a 2-Bros pipe for it to be complete.

Looking good Droog. Will the wheels be turning this year or is it for next summer?
I'm currently resurrecting my 500 Pantah after 25 years in boxes. I've moved house four times and it was in a sorry state but i've had all the metalwork powder coated and gradually sorting through the jigsaw. I also had to build a shed first, hand made, none of your shop bought shite and it's still not quite finished. Dislocating and fracturing my shoulder didn't help. It has been a tough 5 months but getting there.
