For 2022 did Ducati go too far with new designs in order to beat Yamaha? Will the 2023 bikes be more conservative in their upgrades this year? Or is too late for that? The Mooney VR team were 1st and 3rd at the test, assume they were on current bikes. www.motogp.com/en/test-results/2023/VC1/MotoGP/FP1

Well so far FQ and MM don't like their new bikes and Puig also says the new Honda isn't good enough.

At the test the VR team were already riding Millers and Bagnaia's bikes.
I did also read an article which was commenting on the Yamaha and HRC situation, with voices on social media interpreting their demise due to "poor" performance at the test, but as was pointed out by the author (can't remeber who) this was just the first time that the race riders have ridden a few versions of the proposed 2023 bikes. They are far from being fully developed and ready to race. That said, those that start ahead logically have less catching up to do. But no, its not too late.
Ducati can certainly dial the advances back and revert to a 2023 bike closer to the 2022 spec, in the same way that Yamaha can try to up the game in the engine department, there are over 3 months before the season starts. Plenty of time!

Honda should throw two things in the bin and start from scratch.
1) The bike 2) Puig

A stat I worked out following spuu's post:
Taking the final positions of the two main HRC riders in the last 8 years and working out the average of the 2 gives the following results
3 Years "pre-Puig": 3.5th 3.5th 2.5th
5 years "post-Puig" 6th 10th 16.5th 9.5th 14.5th
Now I'm no statistician and I don't want to jump to conclusions but....

Marquez cannot develop a bike!

Well those 5 years with Puig are up to 2022, so his first year in charge was 2018. It's been downhill from there!
If there is any mitigating factor it would be MM's injury, but the decline started pre shouldergate.

Anyone think Honda and Yamaha are sandbagging a bit to try and induce some Ducati complacency.

I remember last year the 2022 Honda was supposed by the awesome and a weapon blah blah and it turned out shit. I think Ducati really do have YAmaha and Honda playing catchup, they can literally just forget about the horsepower side for a start. Yamaha and Honda are clearly way down and need to work on all fronts. Fuck know what KTM need. Aprilia still need better riders. That bike could have won the title with different riders.

KTM are saying that they are finally on route with their frame to give better feel enter, mid and exit. Hope they are right. Remeinds me of Ducatis CF "frame" with no feel. I wonder what their stubborness has cost them?
