On one hand it looks like KTM have made the breakthrough they needed, I certainly hope so. But on the other hand why did Aprilia's similar breakthrough peter out and end in a whimper?
I don't agree with Mekon's rider verdict on Aprilia. I don't think there are many riders who would have done better. Nobody knows if Marc can ride other bikes, maybe Rins could have done something, but better than Maverick on a god day? Maverick was in alien territory not so long ago.
For me the jury is still out on who will win the wooden spoon award for machinery next year.
In my opinion:
HRC are trying to be too radical with geometry due to what they see as limitations of the front Michelin tyre structure. Yamaha don't really have a problem except for some kind of glitch at the last test which I suspect was software related and not hardware
I think its more likely that Yamaha sort their shit out quicker than HRC. But if HRTC want to build a brand new bike from scratch by February, they could and we all know that.

Going backwards to 2010, HRC Factory team were 9th, 5th, 9th, 1st, 1st, 1st, 2nd, 2nd, 1st, 1st, 1st, 1st & 2nd. If you are winning titles with MM, constructors title (just highest finishing bike counts per event), and have a decent 2nd rider in your team, the team title will follow. When MM is on form, then all was good. Now he cant make up for a weaker bike to Ducati, he cant. They have signed Mir into the team, who finished 15th this year, best position 3 * 4th places. He didnt come from a Honda 'development' team. Did they only get Mir as Suzuki quit?

Anyone think Honda and Yamaha are sandbagging a bit to try and induce some Ducati complacency. Sandbagging during the tests? That doesn't seem like the 'Japanese Way' to me. I don't mean actually not trying with development but maybe masking times a bit with slowish half laps and not telling about their true potential.

Love him or hate him Maverick is quick. He came so close to a race win this year - and I hope he does it get. I think that would put him in an elite group of just one rider to win on three manufacturers in the entire 4stroke era? Now Ive said that Qatar will be a wet race and Miller will win on a KTM to be the first to win on 3.

Silly season already. A story about Marquez to KTM. Don't see that one. This said I also don't see him wanting to go to Yamaha.

Didn't KTM say that wouldn't want someone MM until they were already regular race winners and true champion contenders? Otherwise, if the "MM" won, it's because of the rider, if they lost then it's KTM's fault!

Toprak has been sideswiped by the new Morbidelli revival.

Journos gushing about Toprak's test. I've even read rumours that he's already signed for the factory team.
That said, I'va also read that Marc and HRC are equally pissed off with each other and that he has already had offers from Yamaha (problems with Redbull as a personal sponsor), Ducati (as a replacement for Zarco, so can't see Marc going to a private team) and KTM (would depend on Acosta going toi HRC to free up the KTM seat though).

Crash.net are saying he's mediocre over the longer runs, 4s a lap slower than race pace?

This from crash
Toprak Razgatlioglu is not Yamaha's No 1 choice for their line-up next season, says managing director Lin Jarvis, who would rather Franco Morbidelli demanded to stay.
Toprak is also kidding himself if he think he MUST be given a factory ride to move from WSBK. The satellite riders have proven time and time again you can win over the past few years. Seems like he's almost sabotaging himself.

You're right though, these days in MGP there is really no need to insist on factory / latest bikes. Who's leading the championship? Oh yeah....

When it comes to Yamaha though, would your really want a satellite bike? They supported Petronas better than Tech 3, but that was probably due to the financial clout of the former!

Not sure why he's not broadened his horizons further than Yamaha. Brand loyalty usually ends in disaster eventually. Even Marquez will regret sticking with Honda.
