The Germans are our friends. In the 49ers in the sailing, GB needed to put 1 boat between themselves and the Kiwis to take gold. GB were 1st, the Germans 2nd about 1 second behind, the Kiwis a further 17s back. Alles gut! www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/olympics/58067567

Another gold in the sailing in the women's 470. They had a big lead going into the final race, they could have finished 7th out of the 10 finalists and still won gold. Commentator hadnt a clue about it, said they needed to stay ahead of the Poles and French. 10 sailing events, 3 golds, 1 silver and 1 bronze. Top of the medal table A legacy of the 2012 London games was the new sailing centre at Portland Harbour, Weymouth. Some fuckwit wants to build a 2 storey building on the waters edge, next to the launching ramps for windsurfers and sailors. Its going to affect the wind, hopefully not too much. The usage for the building - takeaway Costa Coffee cafe. There are already other 2 other cafes within a mile, plus a pubs, takeaways. No doubt the council will approve the building plans (despite several objections) as they can get more income.

New WR for the German women in the pursuit, thrashed the Brits, but thats a silver. Bizarre ending to GB's men's pursuit. The British team had a member drop out due to sciatica and his replacement wasn't up to speed. He dropped off the back of his team towards the end and the Dane's (world champions and favourites) caught him up. As their leading rider had his head down he ploughed into the back of the Brit. Chris Hoy in the studio said if a team get within 1 metre of the team the are chasing then thats it, heat over. Team GB claiming the gun hadn't actually fired at the time of the collision even though they had got within 1m. Eurosport commentator saying the catching team have to get alongside and they fired the gun too early. Not sure of the exact rules, I'd go with Hoy's view, but whatever the rules GB should take it on the chin, they were beaten fair and square. But, yesterday in the heats the Dane's had that medical tape on both shins plus a vest under their tops and should have been DSQ'd according to the rules but were just given a warning. That was yesterday though. From a heat today, Hoy was correct, get to within 1m and thats it, gun fired, heat is over. Latest theory I've read is they fired the gun but it was masked by the last lap bell, but the crash happened at the same time as they fired the gun. BBC commentators still saying the Danes cause the crash, and the Brits should have gone through as the British lad got back on his bike and finished. Nah, dont think so. The Danes faced Italy in the final. Italy were about 0.8s down with 3 laps to go and pipped them at the end. In 2016 the Brits won in 3mins 50s, the Italians time today was 3mins 42s. Thats some improvement in 5 years.

The medals are still rolling along, but we have dropped to 6th overall, level gold with ROC and 1 behind the Ozzies.
A tense women's pole vault this morning, Bradshaw got her 1st podium in top flight tournaments, since London 2012. The height they cleared was 4m 90cm. Thats the same length of my longest windsurfing mast, or to put it another way, a fuckin long way up. Getting up there wouldn't worry me, it would be falling down 4.90m. You wouldn't want to miss the mat and land in the pit.

Enjoyable games to watch. Maybe because I had more time to watch it and there were some interesting new additions. Team GB 3rd highest medal winners behind USA and former USSR. China will overtake us soon. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/58109921France next. Team GB will have a lot more returnees than this games so could do better. The sailing is at Marseille so should be breezy and a new windsurfing kit to enhance the low wind excitement which was severely lacking with the old RSX boards. Canoe/kayak slalom is on a new artificial course 30km from Paris. France has Alpine/Pyrenean rivers which could have been used. Bourg Saint Maurice is a good natural course, dam controlled so reliable. There is a lack of white water rivers around Paris, so they will be pleased. The project is worth 75 million Euros and French want to follow the model of Lee Valley which hosted the 2012 Olympic Canoe Slalom event, meaning they want to commercialize it and open to general public. Huge amount of dirt shifting, concrete used, and will require power to pump the water back up to the top pool. Not very 'green'. But, it does look really good. Sloped sides and larger pools to prevent the water surging. Not sure if you capsized and swam there are too many places to get out the water, I think they forgot about that. The very top looks good for a couple of brutal moves, but from later videos it looks like they have moved some plastic boulders around to soften it up a bit*. Nice terraced banks for the crowds too. * Edit. There are 2 courses, 1 full on, the other easier.

I watched highlights of the women’s and men’s windsurfing…..I presume the lack of wind was why the competitors were constantly pulling/pushing the sail and poodling along at a few knots?….not knocking them but it looked a bit amateur. Sorry Phil!! 1st big event for the Olympic class windsurfing. €8,000 for the complete setup. Cheap compared to normal sailing. I'll look up the price of a Nakra class boat, expect upwards of €50,000 at a guess. Silvaplana in Switzerland. World Championship. Up and down the lake a couple of times, wind is blowing down the narrow lake so plenty of tacking and criss crossing of sailors. Due to Covid, the North and South Americans, Ozzies & Kiwis, Japan and the rest of Asia arent there. So its the European championships + Israel & Turkey. 72 women and 155 men entered! The GPS tracking kit they normal use is on the way back from Japan as they had issues with the kit the Japanese had lined up. Just watching the start of the women's race 11. Looks light wind, 10-12 knots and they are flying.

So that's the Paralympics kicked off. I hope that any inappropriate jokes will not be tolerated on here because they're all so ruddy bloody brave and it's no laughing matter.
Having said that, have we really got a medal hopeful in the archery team called Stubbs?

Weren't they still having some internal conflict about what constitutes being disabled enough anyway? Sure I read something about it and you've got some person with no small toe or something against someone in an iron lung or whatever.
Hard one to police. A bit like Ducati v-twins vs 750cc 4s
Then you had those cheating fuckers who were paralysed but injurying themselves to get an adrenal boost or something.
Some Paralympians competing at the Games in London are feared to have used 'boosting' - a banned practice which involves hurting their lower bodies to raise their blood pressure and improve performance.
Competitors are known to have gone to extraordinary lengths in the past, including overfilling their bladder by fitting a catheter or even sticking pins into their testicles.
