I watched highlights of the women’s and men’s windsurfing…..I presume the lack of wind was why the competitors were constantly pulling/pushing the sail and poodling along at a few knots?….not knocking them but it looked a bit amateur. Sorry Phil!!

Sorry Phil!! All week the wind was blowing at least 14 knots but for the medal race, the only one shown on TV, the wind was 6 knots for the women and 8 for the men. And it was rubbish TBH. I dont think any of the sailing classes would be interesting in those winds. Next Olympics they are using foils which dont require as much wind to be more interesting. I think this demo event was also in 6-8 knots wind.

Swimming has been a good event for the Brits. A distant 3rd behind USA & Oz in the medal table, but ahead of China. London 2012 1 silver 2 bronze Rio 2016 1 gold Tokyo 2021 4 gold 3 silver 1 bronze
Thats some progress.

It takes some bottle to try that move a 2nd time after falling 1st run. I've never done much messing around on bikes, but the I find forward somersault towards the end of her run impressive as well. Backwards I guess you pull back on the bars and balance on the pedals, forwards, how do you keep your feet on the pedals? www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/olympics/58044513

In terms of men's bmx it's not particularly impressive given where the sport is at now.
Bmx and skateboarding show up the big differences between the physicality of men and women.
It is what it is but if you've followed bmx over the years you won't see anything in the women's that wasn't done a long time ago in the men's. Same with skateboarding.
This was 4 years ago

Team GB up to 5th in the medal table. 1 gold behind the Ozzies and 1 ahead of the Russians.
3 more sailing medals in iffy wind conditions. Gold in the Finn (bobbing around in a boat), gold in the 49er Skiff (faster) and silver the new Nakra class (catamaran with foil underneath) which made 9 knots of wind look very exciting.
I've been watching a bit of cycling. The women's pursuit has been interesting in the heats. The Germans and Brits swapping world records. They meet in the final at 9:26 BST.

New WR for the German women in the pursuit, thrashed the Brits, but thats a silver.
Bizarre ending to GB's men's pursuit. The British team had a member drop out due to sciatica and his replacement wasn't up to speed. He dropped off the back of his team towards the end and the Dane's (world champions and favourites) caught him up. As their leading rider had his head down he ploughed into the back of the Brit. Chris Hoy in the studio said if a team get within 1 metre of the team the are chasing then thats it, heat over. Team GB claiming the gun hadn't actually fired at the time of the collision even though they had got within 1m. Eurosport commentator saying the catching team have to get alongside and they fired the gun too early. Not sure of the exact rules, I'd go with Hoy's view, but whatever the rules GB should take it on the chin, they were beaten fair and square. But, yesterday in the heats the Dane's had that medical tape on both shins plus a vest under their tops and should have been DSQ'd according to the rules but were just given a warning. That was yesterday though.

Still think the Olympics would be infinitely more entertaining if members of the public were selected at random to represent their country in any given discipline. I'd love to see a 70 year old granddad from Inverness winning a skateboarding gold because his main opponent had no legs.
