The fully-electric 2019 Tesla Model S slammed into the tree in Carlton Woods at around 11.25pm on Saturday night before bursting into flames with the passengers still inside.
Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman said an investigation had found that ‘no one was driving’ when the accident happened, with one man sitting in the passenger seat at the front and the second sitting in the back.
Officials told KPRC 2 that the $80,000 vehicle was moving at high speed when it failed to negotiate a cul-de-sac turn, ran off the road and crashed.
Fire fighters used 32,000 gallons of water over four hours to try to put out the flames because the car’s batteries kept reigniting.
At one point, deputies had to call Tesla to ask them how to put out a fire in the battery.
DANGER DANGER, HIGH VOLTAGE!

I have zero interest in a car that drives itself. Never mind, Elon Musk says he is "highly confident the car will be able to drive itself with reliability in excess of human this year"...so I guess it must be true.

Can you imagine if the roads are full of these cunting things and you get a massive motorway pileup. It'll be like one of the magnesium experiments you did in school.

I don't want to sound like an old cunt who shuns progress, but self driving cars can fuck right off. I won't even use a car that has lane assist. In fact I don't even use cruise control. I would much rather have a car that is mechanically perfectly built with no electronic/smart aids than a run of the mill one with every gadget going. Oh and I hate people too.

I too am DISGUSTED with modern cars and all the aids. I got into a bit of game with tag with some AMG cunt this morning and this cunt would have been in a hedge if not for all the electronic crap and he just kept slaying me out of all corners I'd just caught him in. Meanwhile my Mini decided I was being a bit hot and kept cutting my throttle out of slow corners after heavy breaking. Fucking annoying.
Yesterday some car dudes came to bike spot and one had a MK2 16v Golf GTi and that was perfection to me. No electro shite and just a nice balance of power. I love that period of cars that weighed about 900-1000kg, had no aids and made about 140-160hp.

My mate had a red MK1 GTi, great fun...and probably more fun than the MK2. I also had a 205 1.6 GTi which was a hoot to drive.

I had the 1.6 Golf Driver which I stuck uprated Gti shocks/spring/antiroll bars on. Along with big bumper kit and a Janspeed exhaust. I wasn't into chavery it was just the best way to make it go faster round corners, do the suspension and stick some decent width tyres on it. The difference from stock suspension to uprated and lowered was massive, it was proper stuff not just cut the springs , maybe bilstein. Corners which would have been death were now doable.

Speaking to a mechanic mate this morning about electronic radar aids and he made a good point, people will become reliant on electronics but if say a plastic bag blows over and sticks on the radar sensor. Das kapoot!!!

Das kapoot!!! I agree. If it fails by the time the driver has realised they will be fucked. Top Gear did a test where a Tesla was following a car at a safe distance then the car in front swerved last second to avoid a stationary car. The Tesla didnt stop in time and hit the parked car (blow up car). I guess they would say they would alter the program to make it swerve instead of trying to stop.
