This whole conversation highlights why bikes are so ace. Yes they have cruise control, but ultimately it's entirely on you to keep yourself alive at often lairy-ish speeds. The main advancement in bike technology has been in the pursuit of speed. The gadgets that can be seen as cutting power is mostly to reduce wheel spin and increase forward motion. That's technology moving in the right direction. The idea of surrendering as much control as possible to big company software is anathema to me. In my mind the minute I sit in a car with self drive functionality, I will end up like the knackers on the space ship in Wall-E.

I enjoy driving cars and bikes, but can't see a problem with jumping in a "autonomous person carrier" to go to and from the ski hill for example, especially going home again when one is knackered. 1 hour each way that could be used on Moto Banzi instead of behind the wheel.
Getting way off topic of the tesla burning up and how much water is needed.

Getting way off topic of the tesla burning up and how much water is needed. This place is one of the last bastions of going off topic. I'm registered on a sim racing forum and it's so fucking anal it's almost unpleasant to post. This place is more like conversation.

Drove back down to Madrid today and decided to take the twisty road up and over the mountain instead of the straight toll road around it. I wasn't going quick, had the roof "open" and was just accelerating a bit through the curves. That was until an Audi A6 Quattro came past and obviously wanted a bit of a challenge. So I obliged by hitting the "Sport" button and caught up with him pretty quick and we went together up the twisty mountain road, all dual carriageway but we had to slow down to get past some trucks and vans, but it was mostly empty so we could use both lanes. A couple of proper hair-pins too for extra fun. I've got to say that the little Fiat didn't embarrass itself at all. I'm not saying it could stay with a proper sports car, but against the Audi it was quite easy to stay with him and it looked like he was trying (might have been a numpty driving, but I'm no Lewis Hamilton either). Surprisingly good points were the gearing (the gear change itself no so much), it hardly noticed it was going up a steep hill, the almost total lack of body roll in the corners and when I braked into the hairpins I'm sure the car actually laughed at me as I braked way too early. I'm sure it could have handled a lot harsher and later braking. The road holding was quite impressive really, not sure what tyres it had but they were easily up to what I could throw at it. So, it was actially great fun for 20kms and that type of road is obviously where it was designed to be driven. The other 380kms were mind numbing leg aching hell alleviated only by Steve Lamaq on the radio.
