Living Norway since 75, we only got what they bought in. Also Norway only had 1 channel back than, Could get in Sweden who had a whopping 2 channels!
Remember US shows like Beretta, Kojack, Colombo. German detective Derrek that they still air today. (Good for kids learning german) UK shows like Bergerac, Onedin Line, Yes Minister, Flawty towers that is still epic and of course the Young ones when Sky etc turned up.
Back in early 80s, the US werstern series was shown, "How the West was Won" (Macahan family) and Norway went mental. Crime dropped when aired on Saturday nights, bars and resutranats were empty, now one out. Everyone at home glued to the tv.
But yes, a lot of the stuff is cringeworthy.

The goodies seemed ok as a kid, I watched a re-run recently and it was a pile of shite.

I watched it as a kid but I wasn't a fan. Sort of liked it at the time. But we didn't really have a lot of choice back then.

The Benny Hill show, for creating odd socks.

Poor old Benny. He was made obsolete overnight literally. One minute he was the Guvnor on ITV. The very next day they were pretending they never liked him anyway and airbrushed him from existence.

Anything was funny if you added yackety sax music. Even cycling.
I bet you if they'd scored saving private Ryan with it and sped it up people would have rolling about with laughter.

I yearn for Spitting Image to make a comeback. The material available now is absolute gold. It would be like that Monty Python sketch where the guy wrote the funniest joke ever and everyone literally died after reading it. Cunts with incontinence would drown in their own pish

I loved Spitting Image as a kid and it was because of that show that I knew who all the politicians were at that time. But I did re watch some episodes a few years back and was surprised how unfunny large parts of it were. I kind of stopped there as I didn't want to spoil my memory of it.

I kind of felt at the time that it wasn't all that funny but we still watched it every Sunday. Not the Nine O'clock News is another show that probably wouldn't be that funny now but it was probably the first 'alternative comedy' show and it's popularity maybe played a part in The Young Ones being commissioned.

Blackadder....I had to look up when it aired....1983 it started, cant believe it’s that long ago. Got better with series 2, Blackadder Goes Forth probably the best imo.

Series one of Blackadder was very strange. I think they changed to a different producer for the second series and never looked back. Rik Mayall was immense in it as he was in everything.

Series one of Blackadder was very strange. I think they changed to a different producer for the second series and never looked back. Rik Mayall was immense in it as he was in everything. As much as it pains me to admit it, the difference was the involvement of Ben Elton as co-writer from series 2 that changed it. The first was written by Richard Curtis and Rowan Atkinson. In some ways I think the first was actually funnier, but all series evolve over time, some get spoiled but some manage to get a wider acclaim as they go more mainstream. Blackadder was one of the latter cases, Red Dwarf went the same way, but they dragged it on too long, but the first series was classic.

First three seasons of Red Dwarf are my favourites but there are still some good episodes later on. But it definitely Jumped the shark many years ago.

How many jokes did they get out of naming captain Darling. Genius.
