Right. Got Strava. Looks good.
Went out tonight for a quick ride, then sat down to see the data. Fuck me I'm shite.
Some of my route is on the main cycle route that goes all the way round Madrid, and sectors that I'm doing in 1 min 43 seconds, others are doing in 44 seconds...
So how to I join the motobanzai group to embarrass myself in front of you bastards?

Right. I'm seriously considering signing up for this. 80 miles offroad including 3000m of elevation. I've got 4 months to get myself in shape for it. lochness-360.com/

Here you go Diego the toe clipper: www.strava.com/clubs/banzai-fitnessDon't worry about your stats. I'm guessing there are plenty of speed merchants round there. If you wanna raise your eyebrows, get a heart rate monitor and do some hills. About a year ago I felt ill going up a tough one. 2.5 minutes of just under 190 bpm answered that. Nice one elnoodle the reasonable. That could be a cracking day out if it doesn't rain.

I've piled on a few unnecessary kilos over the last year so this will be an ideal incentive to get some serious training in. It won't be easy, the Kintyre way that I did 2 years ago was half the distance and it near killed me. There are a few folk from work doing it (the work are sponsoring us to promote local wind farms). I estimate I'll need to lose 10kg which is doable if I seriously commit.
If I do this, I will of course be setting up a charity donation page. I'll decide over the weekend.

Diego the toe clipper, if you haven't done so already, set a privacy zone. Its not unheard of for people not deserving of life to use strava as a way of picking where to break in and nick bikes. I set mine in the middle of a nearby roundabout.

TBH, I'm not really sure who can see my data. I set it to private when I upload a ride, but I suppose that being in the MotoBanzai club, you lot can see it... but what about the rest of the world?

Strava is having a hissy fit for me tonight. I'll check again tomorrow. You can edit your name for bonus privacy like me.

You're my one and only follower on Strava then? Should be 3 rides now! I think I managed to put a privacy zone around my home address, so I left everything else as public. TRied too hard last night and aggravated a nerve problem which causes me to have pain in my arm. That's the problem with having stats for everything I suppose, constantly trying to beat yourself.

Just read your post Noodle and 3000m is a lot of climbing and if there's one thing that will kill a ride is losing the will to live in a climb.
Try and drop as much weight as possible as you'll really notice it on the hills.
Also do it on a bike with plenty of escape gearing, no need for hard man gears of the 80s and fucked knees.

Apologies for being a cunt in other threads, shit's been on my mind as they say. I wish I could fit more than 20 mins of cycling on the turbo in as my fitness plans have gone to shit.

Right cycling cunts. A mystery needs solving.
I have 2 mountain bikes which are identical apart from they are a few model years apart and the (slightly) newer one has 29" wheels compared to the older one's 26". I am consistently 10 - 20% slower on the older bike and can't figure out why. And before you all shout "it's yer fookin' gearing mate", I don't think it's the fookin' gearing because top gear on the smaller wheeled bike feels like harder work than on the other one. In fact, it just feels more of a slog in general. It has a new chain/rearset and a recent rear wheel rebuild so bearings are all new. The tyre profiles on both bikes are a chunky 2.3 on the rear. I'm considering a narrower rear on the smaller bike but surely tyre profile wouldn't have such a large effect?
Help me out you cunts.
