So is this thread for asking opinions?
I keep a look out for English or Merican bands playing over here and saw that soon near me are playing...
The Darkness..
So, what do you reckon? Anyone seen them live? Are they for real? Should I go?

Definitely, they are the real deal….Went to see them in Amsterdam a few years ago, they look like they are taking the piss (maybe they are), but they can play.

Thanks my bovine compadre.
I'm pretty sure they're taking the piss, I like this quote about their first hit: "not quite a parody yet not quite serious enough"....
In any case the point is to be entertained so I think I'll rock up there (pun intended) and see what goes down. Unless its a school night then they can fuck off.

Mogwai were tremendous tonight at the concert hall in Glasgow. 90 minutes of top quality soundscaping and aural texturing. Great to see them in such a small venue too given the enormodomes that they tend to frequent these days. Only downside was the utter weapon sitting next to me with his fucking whooping and bastard whistling between every cunting tune.

90 minutes of top quality soundscaping and aural texturing. Were you a muso journalist in a previous life? Ha, missed my vocation? Bands like Mogwai and Godspeed You! Black Emperor are never going to give you three verses, a chorus and a middle bit. They're carving a sonic sculpture for your ears out of a chunk of solid sound. I never really got it until I saw it live. The use of varying volume to create that 3D texture to the music. Loud as fuck yet crystal clear. It's tremendous to witness.

Saw Stiff Little Fingers tonight in Troon. I was a bit apprehensive about going as I've never been fully convinced about the validity of bus pass punks. I needn't have fucking worried. They wandered on stage, fiddled with the amps then burst straight into Suspect Device followed by At The Edge and the place was fucking bouncing. Slowed down a bit in the middle with a couple of 'new songs' and wrapped up with electrifying versions of Tin Soldiers and Alternative Ulster.
Visually, Burns has morphed into Buster Bloodvessel but his voice is as good as ever even if the famous rasp has long gone. Booted it right out the park and Barrowlands will be tremendous tomorrow night.
Support came from The Professionals with Paul Cook on drums. They were decent, a bit Sham 69-ey. TV Smith opened with a solo acoustic set.
Pretty good night all in and a fair few granddads with mohicans kicking about. At least, the ones lucky enough to still have hair...
