Winter is coming. About the only thing I can think of doing is charging my laptop up at work and not eating food that requires 35 minutes in the oven etc. I don't sweat much so I don't need to shower twice a day or whatever. Luckily I'm not one of those stinking BO people.
Don't have a smart meter as I keep reading horror stories about companies fucking people over with them and over charging.
Heating in our house never really goes past 18.
Not sure what else we can do other than turn it off and walk around in skins of animals we've just killed.

I filled up my van a couple of weeks ago. I say filled up, the pump stopped at £99 when I was a few litres short of full. £1.97 per litre. This morning at Tescos it was down to £1.80 a litre. So I got home, drained the tank and filled up again. Currently driving around on cheap fuel, saved loads.

I've heard of smart meters not working if you changed supplier. Is that still happening? Seemed a colossal waste of money. They dont save you money, unless you actually turn stuff off.
For gas and electric, my fixed price 2 year deal runs out next May. Lucky bugger eh?
That said I dont use much fuel anyway. I'm fine setting the thermostat to 15c and wearing jumpers if I feel the cold. After being made redundant I had to save money for a while, as I didnt fancy getting another job and valued my free time over money.
But to save more money, using the oven less, no more 3 hour slowly cooked meats. If I cook rice, I use a steamer for the veg above the rice. You can steam fish and chicken likewise. Just add ginger/soy/garlic/spring onions etc for flavour.
Microwave porridge instead of a slow 10 minute simmer on the gas hob.

Fairly obvious but you could stop voting for these cunts. I didnt vote for them. Next GE is 2024/25. In the meantime.............. Same can be said for Scottish Indy. I hear some people didnt vote in Indy Ref #1 and got upset with the result.

The Germans have been told to take cold showers whilst saying "take that, Putin". That will show him!!
Maybe we just need to riot like the Sri Lankans

Correct. I didn't vote in Indy ref 1 because I was out of the country and my postal vote mysteriously never turned up. You can be sure as fuck that I'll vote in the next one though.
These energy prices could potentially be more catastrophic than the pandemic. It's bad enough that domestic users will be freezing/starving to death this winter but multiple businesses will fold too as they are not subject to a price cap and are seeing their energy costs rising by several hundred %. This will have a massive effect on an economy already predicted to enter recession. Add more strikes and soaring inflation and we really are massively fucked. Not one government minister was available today. Not fucking one.
It's not all bad news though. My energy shares are doing really well and I'm expecting bumper dividends.

We've got a fireplace, so will add to pollution levels etc.
I have been riding to work a lot, but can't really do more than two consecutive days or my legs go cramp mad. That's a seasonal saver mind.
The Mrs will be making more meals from scratch.

It's not all bad news though. My energy shares are doing really well and I'm expecting bumper dividends. I ditched mine when Corbyn was talking about nationalising them if he got in power. That was a mistake, they had no chance of getting in, on reflection. Shareholders are coming in for stick getting their dividends, but a lot of pension funds are shareholders. Unfortunately, they all arent British. Same for our railways. We are helping out pensioners and help funding transport systems all over the world. ps That. Is. A. Disgrace.

Right, some home fucking truths. Tory ideology isn't going to fix this. #ThickLizzie is apparently considering tax cuts because she is incapable of critical thought. A 5% cut in VAT will equal 4% off your energy bills. Clueless. Cuts in tax always benefit those better off the most.
Here's my back of a fag packet solution.
Windfall tax on wholesale energy companies. We need to stop being angry at them. They don't set the market price. However, they are making £billions extra that they didn't expect so take it off them. £24bn will give every household in the UK £1k off their bills. The government can afford to match this given how much they spunked up the wall during the pandemic. So that's £2k off every cunt's energy bills and is a short term solution.
Long term, this isn't going to get any better. It's fair to say that Europe and Russia have burnt their bridges in the international gas trading game so the wholesale price of gas will stay high. I'm not going to explain contracts for difference here (Google it) but offshore wind farms currently being constructed have agreed to sell electricity at a fixed price and that price in the last round of auctions was quite low. Wind farm construction needs to be accelerated and matched with energy storage (I did a masters project on the need for storage 20 fucking years ago, it's not new). This won't reduce the price of gas but will reduce the price of electricity if we are less reliant on burning gas to generate it.
Sadly, you can bet the hole in your arse that the Tories will do none of this. Tax cuts won't help. Additional gas production will not produce anywhere near enough to have any effect on international prices. We are massively fucked with these cunts in charge.

Back to cooking, Chinese food can be frugal on the gas if you pick the right recipe. 20 minutes poaching time, then leaving 40 in the pot, for a whole chicken. schoolofwok.co.uk/tips-and-recipes/hainanese-chicken-riceI did this Saturday. 1 chicken lasts me 3 days. 2nd day stir fried noodles and veg, today probably chicken noodle soup. Some of the base sauces like Soy, Oyster, sesame, chili bean paste etc used in Chinese/Thai recipes might seem expensive, but if you buy quality stuff in larger bottles from an Asian supermarket it isnt that bad. Guess if you are a meat and 2 veg person then chop it all up smaller before boiling it to death.

I'm at work more than at home. Even at the weekends I'm hardly at home. I eat at work too. I live too far from work to use any other means of transport than my car. Heating wise I get discounted gas. Not much I can do really to save any extra.

I've noticed the price of a few certain types of bikes I've been after dropping recently. A hard winter could free up some toys people can't afford to keep. I don't borrow money and don't buy anything I can't buy outright. Plenty of people will not do that though. In terms of bikes I want this could be good. Last year people were starting at £4000 for Royal Enfield classic 500s but I've seen them kicking about for around £2500-800 lately. Also keeping my eyes out for synthesizers. Once again maybe non-essential toys people may sell first.

UK natural gas futures market seems to be falling. Seems to have risen sharply because countries have been building up their reserves. You could say panic buying. Now gas is stashed, there is less demand. But, they wont be selling this stashed gas cheaply as they bought it for top $. Russia cutting off all supplies might fuck up future prices even more. www.theice.com/products/910/UK-Natural-Gas-Futures/data?marketId=5351153&span=2
