What a cunt these matters are. Tried to get my mud/chain guard off the RC390 but KTM decided that a couple of the retaining bolts were best placed in awkward as fuck positions, including one that means taking the rearset off. Rearset has 3 fixings a 19mm nut and 2 14m bolts. 1st one came off ok and then the 2nd make a horrible screeching noise and is now spinning about and going nowhere.
When I've got the cunt out no doubt it will be the frame that is stripped not the bolt. Just been watching a ghetto method of metal epoxy in the hole and the bolt put back in but covered in oil or wax. A day later and you've got a new thread.
Never buy a bike some cunt has used a commuter. Corrosion central.

Helicoil your only hope it is.
(Sorry the boy was watching Star Wars earlier)
Unless... can you put a longer bolt and a "non-captive" nut behind the frame lug? Unlikely on modern stuff to have that sort of space, that was a more a trick for Uncle Herbert's SR250 Special, but you never know.
I've used the "epoxy in the hole" repair, but only on stuff like watches, not footpegs on a machine that travels at 100mph with me sat on it. Fuck that.

Bugger it, I'll clean up with tap and then stick copy strands down into it to tighten up. Bike probably won't do 100mph. Still 2 other bolts.....

I'd never do anything too cowboy where something like footrests are concerned Meeks. The epoxy method you mention is not a good idea for this application. From your description, is it one of the 14mm bolts that's stripped? Take a few photos and report back.

JESUS LOL. I decided to look at a KTM parts diagram to see exactly where the bolt went into........Fuck me.
Basically the 'stripped' one of the three bolts goes ALL the way through and out to the other rearset into .....a nut. If I started on the other side I'd have noticed straight away. I was just spinning a nut on the other side. Oh well no stripped bolt.
Never seen a rearset mounting go all the way across the frame. I have now. TBH the whole bike seems a bit 'Audi' in that it seems to have about twice as many fastening points as your probably need. The chainguard being a point, fucking thing has about 8 mounting points. VFR had about 4. Some cunt had also stuck the grips on with about 2 tubes of glue. At least the new ones will look bobby dazzler with 'ktm' on them and fancy looking brake and clutch levers.
Anyway, whole bike is almost plastic free now, ordered the usual, filters, Chain and sprockets. Will drop all fluids tomorrow. Once I've taken the tank and some stuff under it off I'll try and do the valve clearance check. Hopefully it'll be ok as I don't want to spent a day taking the engine out. Also need to get rounded/seized manifold not off. Will split it if it doesn't look like wants to budge, rather leave the manifold stuff in.

Mate has a load of Evaporust left over, going to give everything a dab with that. It won't be out and about in shite weather from now on though and will be getting grease where it needs it. Some parts need replacing due to rot like the underside fairing hanger but it's going to be fair-weather riding from now on as the only way to ride the thing is like cunt. Thinking about getting another bike for more all weather duties, something like a Tiger as my shoulder is getting a bit better now so I can handle a bit more weight. Should have kept the VFR really.
The only other thing that's pissing me off is all the frame lacquer has oxidised to fuck and the orange is dull as fuck. Tried a couple of cutting type colour restorers and they haven't done a thing so it looks like 1200 or 2000 grit sandpaper is needed.
I don't know why I keep buying shit bikes as I do actually have some money at the moment and could get something miles better with no rusted bits.

Get it powdered coated. You could go all in and make it the best you can or just go buy something else that you prefer. Or do neither.

Well i fucked about in photoshop and it would look fucking great with a peppermint frame but then we start getting into spending more and more on something that like we've said before isn't that great. If I can't get to valve in situ then I may as well get frame done if the engine is coming out.
Maybe if this bike was just 15hp quicker I'd have no need for anything else. No doubt I'll get itch to trawl through sheddy 400s again soon or sheddy 6000s. Should really just put £6k down and get a Daytona 675 as I think they are beautiful.

What about the Street Triple 675 is? ....fantastic bike judging by the the reviews it gets.

Recently I have been getting urges for an original, first year 92 blade in the black, grey/silver, just like the one I had back in 92 (funnily enough).

Do it Spents but also for extra thrills, ride with cape. I would do fella, but I have seen The Incredibles, the cape would just end up straight in the back wheel. Sorry to hijack your thread, Meeks, but I can't believe the blade is 30 years old next year. They are already going up in price for a good 92 original. I have seen a few for 6k and even one for 9k. It's like SP1s and 2s now, they go for crazy money.

There is always a peak window for buying an old bike that had a following. Loads of Blades were sold in the 90's. They get old and a bit tatty and around 2010 they were cheap as chips to buy an old 92-96 bike. But then they start getting rarer as the really shitty ones got scrapped, crashed or parted out. This leaves the well looked after examples only and by the time the nostalgia bug hits you, they are a lot rarer and going for silly money. First bike I remember that happening to was the 350 LC. They were going for silly money as far back as 1996. Then it happened to the race rep 250 two strokes.
