Arai is the cheapest helmet I've ever bought. Think I've been through 2 of them in 15 years. Is the correct answer. I'm on my third in 21 years and to be fair the second one is still usable but I replaced it when I broke a side pod and they had discontinued the spares in the colour scheme (KRJR rep.). Than a year or so later I found some NOS pods in the right colours! Result, so now I've got two.

Here's another bad product. MT Helmets. I think I've moaned about this before but don't buy cheap lids! It's got pac man on which appealed to me greatly. Sadly the visor is shit, fogs, lets in air and is like a kaleidoscope at night. It's also a really loud lid and whistles like fuck when you put your head down into racing positions. What a piece of shit. If only it was made by AGV. Aye, i had a Paddy Hopkirk and the wind used to whistle through that when i was in a racing crouch on my FS1E.

I'm not sold on the don't buy a cheaper lid argument. I have had a couple of 'cheap' lids that were really good. Current lid is an AGV. The inner padding has rotted a little whilst it was stored in a cupboard for a year. I only got that lid in 2014 and it was only really used for about six months. Will cost about £70 to replace the inner padding in it. It's a good lid other than that. Still say the best lid I ever had was my Nitro 'budget' lid. Got it around 2006. Can't find the same model available anymore though. Paid less than £100 for it. It was purchased as a temporary lid whilst waiting for the one I wanted became available. I liked it so much I just kept using it. Gave it to a friend when she purchased one of my old scooters. It fitted well and was very quiet. Visor was good too. No idea what their current range are like though. When I did MX for fun, I always had an Arai. But only because they were free due to the rider I worked for being sponsored by them. I can't say I was that impressed by the build quality considering how much they cost. I've always felt you are paying a premium to cover their sponsorship costs more so than any development. I've no doubt there are some shocking cheap lids out there. But that doesn't mean they are all shite.

This isn't really a product as such more of a product shortcut. Tried the rusty things in white vinegar trick. Leave it in a couple of days with a couple of wire brush agitations during the time and by fuck it works.
Obviously you'll need to wire brush off the worst of it but it seems to work. Missus probably won't appreciate bike frame in the bath though.
Cheaper than some of the rust treatments which are fucking expensive. Apparently you can even chuck rusty bits in mollases! Saw a vid and given time it did a good job.

In the past I've had Shark, Dainese, AGV and myriad budget shite and nothing has come close to an Arai for longevity. It's the padding. It stays firm for years whereas cheaper helmets are spinning round your dome in no time. Comfort is unrivalled. Visor change takes seconds. Quite like the classic looks too.

Maybe so but that Nitro budget lid I had was used loads by me, always fitted well and was still like new 8 years later when I passed it on to a friend.
