He makes Troy Corser look average at fading

I enjoyed that. I was looking forward to seeing how JR would progress but then he bollocksed that for me. He might need a few 'calm' down instructions though. He takes too many liberties with slower riders so can't moan too much about TS.

Thats set the standard high for racing for the rest of the year. Sykes chose the wrong compound tyre, the other front runners were on the other one. Bautista was slower at the start as he made his way through the field, but he had more laps in 1:31s than anyone other than vd Mark. Rea was 0.5s quicker a lap after he recovered. In testing Baz was using the 2019 engine as the 2020 wasn't ready. It makes me wounder if is still using the 2019 engine, his bike seems quite slow. Whit said the Crescent team engine has 5% more power than last year's. resources.worldsbk.com/files/results/2020/AUS/SBK/001/LAP/ChronologicalAnalys.pdf?version=da9770303ae4481fb2111307e8ece96cWSS has compulsory pit stop for a tyre change again. They claim their new slick hasn't had enough testing to ensure it can last a full race distance.

Biggest surprise was how slow the Ducati was in a straight line with Redding on board - 310 compared to most of the others doing 320+ Davies was consistently lapping =>316kph, Rinaldi was 1 or 2 kph slower. Redding was lapping anywhere between 302 and 317. Was that due to being in a group or down to him specifically? A bit odd, but Toprak and vdMark both lost about 10kph on top speed from lap 18 onwards, the others didnt.

What is Laverty's excuse?

What is Laverty's excuse? Dunno. He qualified 14th, then dropped a 2 places in the opening laps to 16th. Finished 11th. Just 0.101s faster and he would have finished 8th. Lazy fucker.

Brilliant race. Good to see Sykes giving it to Rea after being on the receiving end so many times when they were team mates.
Credit to Toprak, he slugged it out better than the rest. It was like a moto 3 race at the finish.
Sykes clearly make the wrong tyre choice. Surely it's better to stick with what everyone else ran than trying to be smart.
Got to say Bautista impressed after qualifying so poorly. That Honda is fucking quick by the way.
I've loving WSB

I watched it live. I really enjoyed that race. Imagine how good though it could be if they had access to decent tyres.

Aye, great racing. As we hoped for.
I too was glad to see Sykes going for it against Rea, not sure if it may have been a bit too much though?
Shame Rea couldn't hold it together afterwards though. The pace he had was making it look like the best comeback since Marquez started from the back in Moto2.
Toprak looked like he might have been capable of taking the fight to Rea had it come down to it. Happy for him after how he was treated by Kawasaki. Not sure if any of the others could have though.
Lowes did very well I thought too.
I was also surprised how "slow" Redding's Ducati was.

SP race was pretty close as well. Unfortunately ELav and Gerloff banged their noggins in warmup so couldn't race.

Some surprises in today's racing then!
Baz was robbed in race 2 but if there was a prize for offroad riding...
Redding playing the same game as Rea last year? Consistency as a winning strategy?
It really looks like Ducati have lost the power advantage. Lucky the Honda struggles in the curvy bits otherwise they would just pass everyone on the straights. Looks like that privilege goes to Kawasaki this year.

Lowes leading the championship, I didnt think I would be seeing that. He didnt shine in testing (neither did the sun much), so didn't have the dry time on the bike, like he said. He looked solid. Baz was riding like a demon but just lost out down the s/f straight. When Toprak's bike gave up and he pulled over Baz was doing his around the outside up the inside move and was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whit said Ten Cate had taken the 2019 engine and were doing their usual in house tuning strategy.

Good racing. Phillip Island is definitely one of the great tracks. But it rarely provides an indicator of what is to follow. The Ducati looked slow to me (relatively speaking) and the Yamaha and Kawasaki factory efforts looked very evenly matched. The Honda will come good mid season and the only negative you could throw at the series is the lack of entries for 2020.
