Right you shower of crusty spunksocks. It's time we had a dedicated movie thread. Movies are awesome. Whether you're watching them in the cinema with a bumper box of popcorn or watching them at home with a bumper box of Kleenex, same rules apply. So in memory of the great Jack Douglas who recently died at the age of two..two..two hundred and fo..fo..forty f..five while shagging some prime Welsh fanny, give us your movie reviews you bastards.
I'll kick the fuck off.

Dr Sleep.
I had such high hopes for this but also the fear that it would be an absolute clusterfuck. The Shining is one of the greatest horror flicks ever and one of Kubrick's masterpieces so could a sequel ever live up?
Of course not. Not even close. But that doesn't make it a bad movie. Think of it as the cinematic equivalent of The Stone Roses Second Coming. As a standalone piece it has very high merit but compared to it's predecessor it's miles away. Having said that, if you'd read The Shining then watched it, like me you'd be raging at the film's shitey ending compared to the book. That issue thankfully gets addressed.
Also, Ewen McGregor needs to decide if he's from New York or fucking Perth.
Go see it. It's a very good movie but not a patch on the original.

He Never Died
Best described as a dark comedy version of Taken with a supernatural twist (© The Guardian); dry, dark humour, sudden and intense rage and violence... I'm not very good at this sort of thing, but this film had me laughing at the main character's melancholy and his matter of fact attitude to killing in order to achieve his goal.

Joker.
I can't understand how people didn't like this unless they were expecting a Batman movie. It is very, very dark but is an utterly magnificent piece of cinematic art. I can't recall a single scene that doesn't feature Whacking Pheonix and he delivers one of the greatest acting performances ever committed to screen. Just sit back and marvel at a very fine actor at the top of his game and don't feel embarrassed at let slip the odd "go on son!"
In my book he has completely atoned for being such a massive cunt in Gladiator.

I thought Joker was very overrated but it isn't a bad film. Once a upon a time in Hollywood is an excellent film that I highly recommend. The Irishman I'm still undecided on but I still would encourage anyone to watch it. The Gentlemen was a fun watch and I will probably watch it again soon. I'm terrible at remembering good films I've seen so I will have a think and keep adding.

Box sets then seek out the first series of The Terror. One of the best series I have watched in ages.

Still not watched The Irishman as I can't find the time! That said I rewatched the 1966 Grand Prix on Blu Ray (over 2 days) and that fucker goes on forever. Awesome footage from back when F1 was actually dangerous and crowd control was a piece of string.
Funniest bit of Joker was the midget scene. People in the cinema were actually wimpering and crying 'don't kill him' and the like. The wee cunt.

Tried to watch Once Upon a Time in Hollywood last night but just couldn't get into it and eventually fell asleep. Cards on the table, it took me ages to find a reliable stream and I'd necked a few single malts by the time it started. And a bottle of wine. Maybe some beers too. I'll try it again.
Heard good things about Uncut Gems so might fire in about that tonight.

Ok, i don't have Sky movies, netflix, or basically any access to new movies, other than actually going to the cinema and that is an experience which fills me with dread.
Basically it's a fucking rip off and i hate the smell of popcorn and hot dogs.
For that reason i'm reviewing a 2018 movie i watched at the weekend. The Professor is weirdly a comedy about a man who's just been diagnosed with lung cancer and basically decides to adopt the fuck it attitude to life. Johnny Depp is the college professor and is excellent in the role. With pathos and sarcasm abound in equal measure Depp's character brings a new meaning to straight talking, and the dialogue with his philandering wife is hilarious. I've always liked Johnny Depp and after watching this movie i like him even more.
I'm giving it an 8/10

Watched Parasite. Recommended but you have to pay attention all the time and not fuck about on your laptop due to the subtitles (unless you're a proper smart cunt and can speak Korean)

I'm giving it an 8/10 We can't afford broadband and even though we are piggy backing on nextdoor's Wifi, streaming Netflix, Amazon Prime etc. seems a bit cheeky and would be taking advantage of their generosity. So instead I subscribe to Cinema Paradiso (see link below) and I've just added The Professor to my 'Watch List'. For £8 per month, I get 2 films at a time for a maximum of 4 films a month; this works out fine as we're too busy or knackered during the week, so we save them to watch with a meal on Saturday evenings. This option doesn't appear to be offered anymore, but there are others; www.cinemaparadiso.co.uk/
