Fuck's sake. Had enough of the thirsty as fuck <25mpg TT so i've been looking at something that'll do twice the mpg and cost not much to tax.
The only things that seem to caught my attention are Alfa Mitos and ......Minis.
If I was being a real sensible cunt I'd buy a Volvo or a Skoda Citigo. There are plenty of fast motors out there but not many that can pull off speed and decent mpg (other than maybe big turbo diesels).

Spooky timing.
A few weeks back we got a third car as our youngest hit 17. 2 cars across 4 drivers was never gonna work. We got a citigo. Amazing headroom, holds it own at 50-60 and insane mpg. Doubt I'd get a bike in the back even with a wheel off though. Our second car (what I mostly commute in) is 13 years old and in has been in 'run into the ground' territory for a little while. The Mrs seems quite taken with the citigo too, £20 tax helps, so is hinting at the Seat version to replace it. Main motor is an m-sport 3. M stands for missile.

My mechanic brother is into his sporty cars. He's had hundreds (including a gay TT) but the one that stood out for me as a real world car was his Vauxhall Astra VXR diesel.
Can't remember all the spec and bhp etc but i did have a go in it once and fuck me it went like a rocket. Had a sports button which was like a turbo switch, nearest thing to a sports bike performance. Handled well too.
Thing is, it did about 50 mph too.

Ive just bought mesen a Focus ST3 diesel...I wanted a family hatch but something that has a jalapeno up the tailpipe. It doesn't disappoint! All the creature comforts such as leather, apple carplay, cruise etc, and it looks and goes like fuck (Ive had the ECU flashed so its up to 235BHP now).
Its my inner chav!

Fords are good now. They always had that motorsport heritage thing but were made of bean cans when I first bought my Mk2 golf back in 1990. I bought the Golf and my mate bought and Escort. The Escort was terrible and only lasted another couple of years before rust claimed it. I put the Golf through a fence into a field.
Channel that inner chav!

My previous car was a beemer 335d which gives great bang for buck. It averaged a genuine 40mpg over the 100k miles I did in it.
Swapped it this year for a 2 series M240i. Thats getting a 35 combined average and it goes like stink. Its tiny, 8 speed box and makes 340bhp.

Only problem is every cunt in an Impreza or Type R wants a race now...I'm not racing with a 6 and 2 year old in the fucking car! Having the paddle shift is rather nice though...Surprises a few people away from the lights!

I've had Alfa's,Lancias and an M3 but I've got 2 kids and my girlfriend has 2 also (her 13 year old is over 6 ft), I'm finding myself looking at 7 seaters, trouble is I hate MPV's so that leaves used Disco Sports and XC90's everything else is big bucks. I suppose we've all got to grow up sometime.

Almost bought a fiat 500. That is gay.
Drove a Cooper as well. May buy as it was better than I imagined. It's
The Mito I saw very optimistically described. Has fucking rust on boot and a cracked grill for starters. Told him thanks but no thanks

My bro in law had a 500 Abarth which was okay, but yeah the normal 500s are well naff.
Watch the mini. A mechanic I knew charged someone a fortune to do some engine work. I thought it was a front end crash - he had to take the front off to get to where he needed. The official line was a lot of hours labour but it took twice as long. Not every model, so do your research.

It's almost unavoidable these days. Fucking bumper has to come off most stuff to change a fucking bulb. My mate who is a BMW mechanic (or was as I seem to have annoyed him) says they are partly made like that to lock you into expensive work. It's a sham. No point having more reliable cars if the mechanics can't charge you £1000 when they do get some work.
They all had to go on a course recently as nobody knows how to fix electric cars at all.
This said even the pros fuck up the simple stuff sometimes. When he did my wife's cambelt and brake discs he forgot to tighten the wheels properly! I got this call saying "can you hear that noise?" and I was like "pull the fuck over and see if your nuts are loose"....and they were. He'd have got fucked if that wasn't an on the side job.
Probably going to go for the cooper. Mitos just seem like a mechanical hand grendade reading the forums. It's almost like a masochistic thing buying an Alfa by the sounds of it. Nobody seems to own one that didn't bite them in the wallet. All cars are a gamble I guess.

My VW T5 gearbox is getting louder, think I'll be getting an Amarok when I go to the NW200 I wish I still had my T4 TDI carvelle, sold it when it hit 490.000 kms. Still running but rusting. been pretty happy with my used Ford Kuga, pretty much 40.000 kms with no problems. AWD is good here in Norway. Changing bulbs is a nightmare, my 2 cornering lights have gone, Ford wants £160 to change them! (Norway) F**k than, doing it myself soon
