Gravel, gravel, I used to dream of working on gravel! Luxury! I work on a disintegrating concrete drive with loads of uneven sharp bits! (hire skip, borrow jack hammer and replace with paving stones is next year's job) Here's hoping you can fixing get this sorted. Maybe you should open a garage like that Von Dutch bloke except for Streetfighter and Back Street Heroes readers with a speciality in Suzuki Bandits and Simpson Bandit airbrush jobs with women with their tits out? Von Droog?

If I do get made redundant I'm seriously thinking of doing a car valeting/detailing business. By business I mean me renting a small unit.

I've admitted defeat. Something weird is going on with the head as you torque it down. Ordered a low mileage engine and will swap all my new bits over. In no rush to do it all though. Thankfully it's a very common engine. Got one for £400 delivered with only 58,000 miles on it. This means I have to MOT my old car this week and replace the lower suspension arms and fit the new cat. Bummer. I might be made redundant this week also.

There is a third way the oil can mix with water on this engine. Oil cooler. I'm never buying a Vauxhall again. Way too many weak points on these motors.

I'm with you on that Droog, got a Saab 9-3 which is basically a re-bodied Insignia CDTI. As soon as it cleared 120k things started failing with depressing regularity. I tend to look after cars and keep them for a long time. Its pissing me off that every year now it costs more to get it through the MOT than it's actually worth. Looking at the forums, every issue I've had has been well documented as a weak point. So it's not me. KTM's are the same.

I have never known any other car engine to have 3 ways it can fail by mixing oil with water. The seals on the oil cooler are shit.

Forgot to update this. I cancelled the recon engine and replaced the oil cooler. Car is running fine. So in short, if you buy a car that has a Z18XER engine in it (and a lot of cars use this engine across lot's of different manufacturers) and you suspect your head gasket is gone, first replace the oil cooler. If that doesn't cure it then you are left with the timing plate gasket and the head gasket. Both are big jobs. Turns out my car had a faulty timing plate gasket and a knackered oil cooler. None of the parts are expensive though. So despite all the headache I have got myself a car for well below half price even with all the bollocks I endured.

Forgot to add the weirdness I had whilst torquing it down was due to a faulty torque wrench.

Sport button is fun but it kills the MPG. Nice car to drive but I miss the go kart handling of my little 2 seater convertible. Gonna have to live with this for at least a year after all the effort I put into it.

I'd keep it forever after that hassle!
Try a Mini if you haven't Droog. Mine is nearest I'd had to a go-kart feel with modern cars. I'd imagine the 200hp ones are mental as mine is amusing enough with 110hp. Just a bit gay though. A bit a Suzuki Gladius.
