Better start for Davies on the new V4 though!

Unless Rea just stuck in a mentalist lap for laugh you all seem to be avoiding the elephant in the room again.

I am ever the optimist, so I can see Yamaha challenging the Rea/Kawasaki pairing this year. Fingers crossed that the new Ducati and BMW will be up to speed, plus direct HRC involvement will bring the Fireblade on.

Only testing.. could be just an evolution for the Kawasaki so JR is running a full known setup. Others may be testing new stuff. Hopefully!! Speed of Chas is impressive though, however homologation may slow him down later on. Duke V4 has air clutch, road version is oil. Gone are the days when the Italians can play fast n loose with the rules like that.

Gone are the days when the Italians can play fast n loose with the rules like that. Are you talking V4R vs V4/S/Speciale, or V4R vs race version? I could find any info. If it's a loophole in the rules that Ducati are exploiting, then fair play to the Italians, but the FIM and Dorna need to close that ASAP and definitely before the season starts.

2018 rules (cant find any 2019 rule changes so far)
2.4.8.13 Clutch a. Aftermarket or modified clutches are permitted (including plates/springs etc). b. Back torque limiter is permitted. c. No power source (i.e. hydraulic or electric) can be used for clutch operation, if not installed in the homologated model for road use. Human power is excluded from the ban. d. Clutch system (wet or dry type), type (multiplate) and method of operation (cable/hydraulic) must remain as homologated. e. Clutch basket may be changed. If the clutch basket has the primary gear integrated then the primary gear must retain the original number of teeth and tooth form.

If the "air clutch" is part of the official race kit? If so, then it might qualify. I wonder if the above rule is defining the method of operation or making an assumption that the only available systems are cable or hydraulic?

www.fim-live.com/en/sport/sport/superbike/In places in the documents it mentions for 2018 .... and from 2019 onwards in blue. I did wonder if the words in brackets were just given as examples, although; 2.4 ................EVERYTHING THAT IS NOT AUTHORISED AND PRESCRIBED IN THIS RULE IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN

Since the Flammini Bros left the scene, WSB has been fairly bias free when it comes to the manufacturers "bending" the rules. I'm sure that the FIM and Dorna will clamp down on this if there's an infringement and the other manufacturers would leave if nothing was done about it.

Took Rea 3 laps to go top after giving the rest of the field a two hour head start. Those new Yamahas or Melandri and Cortese are proper factory kit.
