K6 1000 got delivered this week I've only done 10miles to put some fuel in but Im already in love with this bike. It feels small and nimble for a thou. Its light at 166kg dry - the midrange is something else. Read so many reviews about this bike and its going to live up to the hype. Only 6.5k miles - I was hoping it to be in good condition but its immaculate for knocking on 17yrs old.

Oh, that's nice.
Lots of power and no electronics, watch that excessive wrist action!

What year we looking at before most 1000s got traction control etc? For the GSX-R, it was 2017 before it got TC!

That looks immaculate for a 2006 bike. I had a K3 and that was phenomenal. The mid range torque from 5,000 onwards meant trying to keep to legal speeds was the main issue. I remember someone saying they had an anti wheelie device which you could remove in a couple of minutes. I didnt, too scary as it was. It was ok-ish for touring on, 45mpg up to Assen.
Have fun and I hope you keep your license.

So how oldschool is TOO oldschool for you chaps? An original fireblade the limit or perhaps a RG500?
How far back would you dare go before you are pushing nostalgia over the bikes ability and perhaps you would be better than the bike?
I think Maybe FZR era is as far back as I'd like to go and still ride enoyably fast?

That K6 is modern enough to be a good track tool unless you need to be 0.15 seconds faster than your mate. To be honest, anything with 17 inch rims, radial front calipers, and maybe a remote reservoir rear shock is good enough. As long as it is in tip top condition. My K5 750 is still useable, it's the high mileage that brings it close to being retired, not the age in years. Classics like an RG500 have their place, but it's not what I want from motorcycling right now.

I love to try anything - doesnt matter how oldschool or fast it is. Owning is a different story though I guess. I've always loved sports bikes and Im feeling like that might come to an end just due to age. Saying that I dont like to do long distance, 2hrs for me is enough so its the prob reason Ive always managed to live with the relevant uncomfort of the riding position. 450 miles in one day on a Panigale though was brutal, I'll never do that again.
There is lovely looking 91' TZR 250 fairly local to me that I'm going along just to have a look. Thats def oldschool.

Nice. Abit of a shame they are all resticted to 45bhp. I think they need to have a fair bit of work done to release the extra ponies.
