Pedrosa has 30 MotoGP wins at 17 different circuits:
China, Donington, Sachsenring (4), Valencia (3), Jerez (3), Catalunya, Laguna Seca, Mugello, Indianapolis (2), Misano (2), Estoril, Motegi (3), Brno (2), Aragon, Sepang (3) and Le Mans.
So he has never won at Istanbul,Qatar, Assen, Phillip Island, Silverstone, CotA, Spielburg. He has won at the tighter twisty circuits, but not all of the faster open circuits, although Barcelona, Mugello & Brno are faster and open.
Marquez is a freak of nature - if you put any riders stats against his they will look poor. Check DP's podium stats against the history of the sport.
Pedrosa cannot ride around problems like the VERY best at this sport have been able to do. One huge factor is out of his control - its well known that if its cooler he cannot generate the heat in the tyres like heavier riders. He's clearly faster at the hotter tracks. But even when the conditions suit, you know he is no Stoner / Rossi / Marquez when it comes to riding around problems. Thats what separates him imho.
I think he is good enough to win a title, and I still think he would have been WC had Barbera not knocked him off in Misano / which in turn happened after his tyre warmer jammed (most people refer to his year as the one where his throttle stuck at Motegi but I disagree). If he was to win one I could happily retire from having a favourite rider and enjoy the sport no matter who wins.
