Its a shame the last race was not a title decider but it would have made no difference.

Had to binge watch the whole shebang last night and I've got to say it was a thrilling end to a brilliant season. Tarren showed class by keeping his head and racing. Thought it was funny after race 2 when he clinched it that despite everyone giving the old treat it like any other race Whit on his grid interview fucked with his head with his think of the bigger picture comment. In the end i liked how he just went for it and got the win on the last bend. Tommy was excellent too and getting 2nd place in the championship was impressive.

Maybe O'Halloran wasn't that quick? Maybe everyone was just playing the showdown game? MacKenzie certainly played it well when he sat out Cadwell. It is what it is but I don't think there's any need for it under the current bike rules. Well O'Halloran's triple win at round 1 netted him 15 points and MacKenzie's triple win at Brands netted him 75 points, so yes, O'Halloran's wins not worth as much. Maybe O'Halloran did push equally hard all season whereas others didnt. Makes it more of a farce. MacKenzie didnt play the showdown game at Cadwell. He had a big crash pushing hard, then sat out 2 races with a broken finger. If there wasnt a showdown, he probably would have raced. If he had been playing the showdown game, he wouldnt have crashed out in R1. Take a look at wins, 2nds, 3rds. JOH 11 5 6 Taz 10 4 5 If they wanted the last round to more of a decider to it, then if they had double points for the last 3 races then JOH 580 points, Taz 574. The points wouldnt actually be like that, as everyone would go for each of the preceding races before Brands equally. Jonathon Palmer said (with a huge grin) in his brief interview it was the biggest BSB crowd there ever, so thats why we have the showdown. Taz rode well and got the title under the rules, but as Brookes said, JOH has a victim of the rules.

Jason looked a broken man at the end and understandably so but the showdown wasn't invented mid season so it's tough but thems the rules. Jason crashed twice at Oulton, not taken out so really it was down to him.

Palmer benefits gig. Motorcycle race attendance is a fickle affair I guess but no other series does it like this. Look at some of the places we don't go to anymore like Croft and Mallory. I think Croft decided not to bother because they can only have so many noisy days and after Palmer takes his cut you're reliant on gate takings. Croft is usually pissing it down or cold even in summer. If it is hot then there's also nowhere to get out of the sun. If it rains on Sunday loads of people won't bother going and circuit takes a loss. Surprised Palmer didn't buy it tbh.
Not sure why they dropped Mallory? It was pretty shit for racing tbh. It was also pretty shit for photographs as well, more so once they took a couple of decent spots out for 'safety'.

He lost just 11 points to JOH as it was just podium credits they were racing for (JOH had 2 2nds and a win). So Taz was lucky he didnt lose out 65 points. JOH crashed twice at Outlon and lost 36 points to Taz. He was leading Taz in R1. R3 JOH was 8th when he crashed Taz was 5th. Yes, those are the rules, but the rules are pish. If the showdown is so fantastic, they would do it for all classes.

I'm not saying that the showdown is fantastic but it was introduced to stop exactly what was happening this year with J O'H running away with it. Camier's title by over 130 points gave them the reason so it would hopefully go down to the wire. The spectators love it and bums on seats wins every time. Look at the Hill/Hopkins finale and tell me that wasn't epic.
Think of the showdown as like the world cup, mini leagues then knock outs. Ok that's probably a shit example but it's to build the thing to a cruetiendo.

Ok that's probably a shit example but it's to build the thing to a cruetiendo. Hopper's bike had an issue in R2 Sunday morning though, otherwise he would have won the title. Bryne was leading going into the last 3 meeting showdown stage on normal points, he had 300, Hill 280 and Hopper 231. Normal points going into Brands finale would have been Byrne 403 Hill 398 Hopkins 358 For the final race, Byrne and Hill would have been on equal points. Byrne won the last race. Plenty of bums on seats there I would have thought. Another case of someone losing out due to the showdown. Back to this year. If it as normal points J O'H would have won by 36 points. If Brands was double points, rest of the year normal points, J O'H would have won by 6 points. Olympic sailing has 10 qualifying races, with a final double points medal race, but all points scored count.

I'm not a fan of the showdown format. But I'm not a fan of a lot of changes that have been made over the years in MotoGP, WSB and BSB. I'd prefer the traditional format of practice and qualifying, no one bike rule nonsense and no penalty for going over the track limit. But I'm stuck in the old rules were better mentality I guess.
I'm glad Taz won the title and I loved how he did it. Hopefully he can move on and continue to improve.
