The SV passed yesterday with advisory on slight play in rear wheel bearing and suspension linkage.
Just wondering what you use? A proper £100+tool or just smacking with hammers and metal drifts?
Thinking of dropping some money on the brand name tool and not buying some chinese shit for £20 that breaks.

Drifts are fine if they are good quality and not mangled old rusty shite, and if you use them progressively and patiently, working your way around the circumference bit by bit. Smacking the shite out of the bearing at one single position can cause the race to pivot and distort the wheel, meaning that the new bearing won't sit right, or worse.
But yes, I do use drifts and hammers, even for head bearings where the frame is at stake, and I've never had a problem.
