Forget nuclear power plants and Hydrogen powered grids or wave/ wind harnessing technology, because the future is almost there! It doesn’t take a genius to understand the implications of this.

I mean, if you read the whole article, it took 14 years to build the facility and 11 years of research to get to this point and they're still generating less energy than their source fuel is supplying. It also states at the end that it will take another "giant leap" to become commercially viable. So say (somewhat optimistically) that they have a commercial product in 10 years and that it takes another (equally optimistic) 10 years to build the first commercial plant, it would appear that we are very far from "almost there."
And what about the cost? Hinckley C is estimated to cost £23bn when it is eventually built and its electricity will cost double that of offshore wind employing technology we've been commercially using for 65 years. How much will an equivalent fusion plant cost using innovative technology, particularly given that the cost of offshore wind is plummeting?
Apply a little bit of thought and it's quite clear that this is decades away from being commercially viable technology. You were right about one thing though Slopey, it really doesn't take a genius...

World II war begins, and the World basically has the same technology as 50 years before! Six years later and the World has working electronic computers’ Microwave technology’ guided rocket science’ Infra-red technology’ Jet powered flight and we have split the atom. Look up the phrase ‘Necessity is the mother of all invention’ and think about the goals that have been set lately that seem to be an impossibility.
It seems you are taking in the old joke “Nuclear fusion is 30 years away and always will be” and are using the politics that are holding up sites like Hinkley point as an excuse to say that science is not advancing beyond the physical as we know it (Look up ‘Quantum teleportation’ as an example! Even though it is its absolute infancy this stuff makes your wind turbines look like the old Egyptian irrigation systems where a set of slaves take turns in running a treadmill to get water to a higher point.
With the sudden surge in supercomputer technology and the emergency which the World sees itself in, it is inevitable that technological advances will be pushed to their absolute limit to find solutions to our problems rather than rely on token gimmicks which are wind farms that in themselves are fucking up the environment by the huge carbon imprint to build them (How the fuck do you recycle a turbine blade)
Honestly my Communist cross between a ‘bald Hermann Goering and that odious little turd Owen Jones’, you need to get out of the habit that you are somehow the be all and end all to the problems of humanity and face the facts that wind farms are just part of a gimmick that has conned the masses and fucked up the Scottish countryside.

Fuck me, Wetherspoons tipped out early today Slopey? What a load of fucking drivel 😂
I don't personally have any wind turbines. What I do have is plenty experience of being involved in developing large capital projects from concept to construction. This is decades from commercial viability.
You're welcome.

I love it how you just debunk a theory without any explanation other than you are superior to all and sundry! Typical champaign socialist with the famous ‘Think of the poor children’ attitude while staying in a ‘Dacha’ and hoping the peasants will see you as ‘Noodle the thoughtful’
Super noodle more like! 2 minutes and you’re done.

Ooh fuck 'Elnoodle the reasonable' likes this! Is that some kind of attempt at shool yard psychology? *Edited* Haha another attempt at shool yard psychology by removing the like! How condescending of you to think the peasants are so thick.
