I've been to Minsk. Fascinating city. Destroyed during the war so it features massive post-war Stalinesque concrete boulevards. The KGB was founded there.
Really visible military presence on the streets and they would take issue with you for taking photographs of pretty much anything. If you want that full on Soviet experience it's definitely the destination for you.

You're right about the kleptocracy roobs, but the whole outdoorsman, martial arts and portrayal of strength goes along way with a lot of young Russian blokes. There's a large number of ultra orthodox young Russian men who devoutly train in martial arts and they look up to that perceived show of strength. Whether it's for show or not is a moot point if enough people respect and follow that kind of leadership. I don't agree with it, but I understand it. As Carl Jung would say, I am embracing the shadow. Also he certainly has some stones when it comes to being a cunt on the world stage. |

Sometimes you just have to admire extreme cuntery, even if it opposes all you hold close to your heart.
It's fair to say I'm not a huge fan of the Trump however it was recently reported that he's billed the secret service $40k for a room at Mar-a-Lago that they had to hire while they were protecting him. Difficult to imagine greater cuntery but also highly admirable in its own special way.

I think if took 1000 random brits and 1000 random russians and we had a big ruck, the brits would lose quite badly. Milling and haymakers will probably only go so far against MMA fanatics.
