If I had the room left over in the garage I could invest in one those nice parts washers but I don't.
Modern eco-friendly stuff seems like utter shit. I some found some Muckoff degreaser lying about and it's fucking useless. Moved onto the can of Holts degreaser....still rubbish.
Trying to think what else is in the garage other than some white spirit.
Was reading diesel is good?

Isn't diesel too oily? You'll need tons of deteregent afterwards to get rid of the residue surely?
Last time I degreased a frame to paint it I used petrol. That was in Thailand, no-one gives an eco-friendly fuck over there.

Had a similar issue when I did the engine on the little aprilia. It was caked in years of oily filth. Modern degreasers are all shit. I ended up using an old paint roller tray. Some proper stiff brushes and a few old toothbrushes. I purchased three cans of brake cleaner and used that. Cleaning out the tray after each can. Not the cheapest of methods but it did a really good job.

Love brakecleaner for deagreasing. Expensive though and evaporates fast.
I also have a ultrasonic cleaner, but can't use flamable stuff in it. I put small parts in petrol or white spirit in a glass jar with lid. The sonics still agitate through the glass. :-) Parts come out pristing and grease free.
Degreasing and cleaning bike chain? The best stuff is thin lamp oil. Can also use it to wipe the lube off the rear rim.

I ended up literally scraping some of it off with a plastic plaster applicator. Anything with chain oil on it was horrendous. The chain guard was a pain.
Waiting on parts now. Did take the spark plug out and it was on the dark side but hopefully once the exhaust is seated properly at the head it will sort itself out. It was backfiring off throttle previously.
