Kirkland Laing has passed away at 66. Not surprised he died young as he was in a bit of a mess for many years now.

Biz Markie was a sad one. I loved his attitude to hip hop. Old School personified, and by all accounts a damn good bloke.

Ooft. Saw ZZ Top for the first time a couple of years ago. It was a box ticking exercise and I fully expected them to be absolutely shite but they were anything but. For the first half hour I hated myself for enjoying them then I just stopped fighting it and cheered the furry guitars like every other cunt.
A very unique band.

I remember hearing a ZZ Topp song on the Bob Harris show on t'radio. It was raw blues and the song was Ten Foot Pole. Harris used to announce the record number and album so next day i bought my first ZZ Topp album, El Loco and was hooked. They went a bit commercial later but the die was set.
Incidentally Billy Gibbons has recently released a new album called Hardware and it is outstanding.

Yep, early ZZ is just down and dirty...great stuff. I was reading an interview with Matt Sorum last week, about his collaboration with Billy Gibbons...good reason to check out 'Hardware'.
