It would be great to see closer racing, so hopefully this would work.

I agree and I'm surprised it's taken so long to do it. after 30 years it will finally stop Ducati's farting in Chapel. Seriously, if it means the end of direct factory involvement both MGP and WSB will benefit. It will also mean that WSB and National specs like BSB can be standardised.
The only thing now is that Fogarty's world championships should be rescinded

MCN have been predicting a 1200cc version for the road (Standard and 'S' variants) and a 1000cc 'R' version for WSB homologation, so they weren't too far off. Duacti currently do the same thing with their Panigale; 1300cc for the road and 1200cc for the R. All can be brought and ridden on the road, it's just that the larger capacity engines are easier to use in that environment (more torque).
I don't see the 'mockery'. All variants of the bike will be at least £20+ anyway, which is out of the reach of most riders anyway.

I'm not sure that I'd care now if WSB disappeared. It is a nothing class now that can't touch MGP and is still nowhere near representative of production racing. The only common thread is Ducati wanting special dispensation to use overcapacity factory prepared race bikes masquerading as production bikes to their advantage. Direct factory involvement for me is a cancer in production bike racing.
The original formula was good in that you bought a homologated bike and a tuning kit and went racing at low cost. Since 1990 it has been ruined by pandering to one factory initially as a blatantly anti Japanese strategy and later to get some credible diversity when it was obvious that production V-twins couldn't hold a candle to production I-fours

I'm not sure that I'd care now if WSB disappeared. I would, but I get your drift. So many changes to so many aspects. Such a shame, it had such a buzz.
