Have had Akros on a number of bikes in the past, but this is first time on 4cyl instead of a twin. Even with road baffles in, I'm finding the rasp annoying and combined with wind noise its a bit fatiguing. I use industrial earplugs that I get free from work but they are a bit uncomfortable under a helmet. Custom earplugs are crazy expensive but there are some mould-at-home kits which are more reasonable. Has anyone tried these or am I better shelling out the dosh for a custom set.

Everyone's ear are different but I found these comfortable. They are quite soft, unlike some yellow ones I had from Boots. I got fed up with buying new ones for £1.50 so bought a big box full years ago and haven't used that many. As I dont ride at the moment so if anyone wants a handful let me have your address and I'll pop them in the post. I might get back on the road in a couple of years but cant see me getting through the rest of the box unless I have a new pair in each ride. ps the have a noise reduction rating of 33 decibels. 200 in a box worked out at 12p a pair at the time, so if you find a set you get on with a bulk buy may be a better bet than custom made which you could lose.

Years ago i bought a set of custom ones from a trade stand at a bike show. They took a mould then made them while i waited. Can't remember the cost but i'm pretty tight so they couldn't have been too expensive. Well worth it. Came in a proper pouch you can stick in your inside pocket and once they're in you hear fuck all. Might have to learn to lip read though I actually lost one of them and contacted the company who promptly replaced it FOC as they retained the mould. Don't remember the company i'm afraid but there must be a few out there.

I use those too. I have CFG custom plugs but I seem to use these cheapo ones more often than not, with a little bit of silicon gel if need be.

Ditto all of the above, CFG at the Excel Bike Show a few years ago....and if you lose they can replace using the original mould.

I had those custom moulds done at work years ago, they cost £68 around 2005 ish, changed jobs and use them at my present job which works out ok because i have shit hearing and there's no difference when i put them in, whilst all the other blokes have to have those rhubarb n custard things squeezed right in and cant stand the noise reduction, of course health and safety shithouses justify their jobs by checking no cunt has them just laid in their outer ear.

We have those soft squidgy ones at work and I find them useless with my ears, they seem to pop out as soon as the foam expands. We also have the harder silicon ones which I use, just have to cut the strings off them but they are uncomfortable. Looks like custom is the way to go.

I listen to tunes on the bike. Earbud headphones and the helmet slips over no bother (fnarr). Am I the only cunt? Can't imagine being on the bike without sounds.

I could see myself listening to music on a long motorway ride, but I try to m-ways that as much as possible. And I'd never do it when riding the bends...too much of a distraction IMHO.
Horses for courses!

Good call Noodle, stream a bit of Extreme Noise Terror in and the Akro's will fade into insignificance.
