When I went to Estoril last year for a trackday event, I couldn't believe how narrow it was in places and run off is an issue!

Nice leveller though. No Johnny Rea owns this track nonsense.

I used to live at Estoril (well just up the road in Cascais) and it has a crazy micro-climate, it is very difficult to predict the weather there and you get wet weather when most of the surrounds can be sunny.

I used to live at Estoril (well just up the road in Cascais) and it has a crazy micro-climate, it is very difficult to predict the weather there and you get wet weather when most of the surrounds can be sunny. I went to watch MotoGP there in 2002. Flew to Lisborn, bus to hotel in Estoril, by the casino on the coast, and caught a bus to the circuit. The weather forecast was sunny all weekend, so I didnt take a coat. It absolutely chucked it down at the circuit. Bin bags to the rescue. In the evening walked up the promenade to Cascias in sunshine, no signs of rain. Alfonso Nieto crashed twice and won the 250cc race. Cant find a video on youtube but its on FB. www.facebook.com/MotoGP/videos/fonsi-nietos-crash-and-win/241097333789033/12 riders finished MotoGP, 13 in 250cc, 14 in 125cc.

I was there the year before, Phil. I think it was the last year of all 2 strokes. Daijiro Kato was the run away winner of the fiddies. I remember that more than the 500s because he stopped right in front of us. I liked Kato a lot. But in relation to the course, the problem is it's right on the Atlantic but on the leeward side of the Sintra mountains, so any condensation in the in coming air condenses and lands on the track.
I liked the place, it was a nice resort but not too touristy, having said that, the driving, especially if you go into Lisbon, is properly wacky-races.
