Trying to change the Mini brake discs. Came to getting the caliper hanger off and the cunts won't budge. First they are 16mm bolts and I only had one of those in 3/8 and my breaker bar was 1/2. Luckily the local shop has a bargain bin full of single sockets and I found a 16mm.
After some severe pulling my bolts have shifted and also after some more fun with the disc retaining bolt I changed 1 fucking disc. I am now now nearly 2 hours in and have done 1 fucking disc.
It's depressing when you watch Youtube some cunt in the US with massive garage and a RUST FREE car easily pull everything to pieces when the reality for us UK boys is filth and corrosion and cut knuckles. It's also nearly 30 and I'm sweating like fuck.

Think of all of those calories that you're burning off If you're lucky enough, or worked hard enough and live in the US, then their standard of living is far higher then that of the UK. I almost moved to California back in the mid '90s to work for my Aunty's electronics firm; $120K then would have gotten me a 4 bedroom house, large garage and a pool, all set in in a lovely suburb.

Aye, and don't forget to send your kid to school with a Kevlar back pack. Nah. It might have some things going for it but it's the most fucked up 'developed' society.

What a day of woe. Retaining screw on disc stripped. Drill bit broke off in screw as I moved up a size drilling it out. Cut a slot in it and wouldn't move. Ended up literally grinding into the disc with angle grinder until I would pull the disc off.
Tried to get what remained of the screw out but the thread was fucked so I gave up and put the disc on without a retainer. A garage would not be happy if I ever take it for tyre change... Hopefully I'll be rid of it in year.

Maybe next time you could pay some cunt that knows what they are doing and has proper tools and a workshop. I find that usually works.

I used to do all my own stuff until i fitted airbags to my Audi Allroad. That tipped me over the edge. I tried to do the pads on my wife's car last year but the cunting piston wouldn't wind back so i ended up removing the caliper and traumatising myself when i should have known better. My mate who is a self employed mechanic now does all my car shite and do you know what, he's better at it than me and he's not even expensive. I did however think that last week when the toilet cistern wouldn't shut off that plumbing wasn't a proper trade and there was fuck all to it. After three attempts and a small flood i called a plumber It is a trade after all.

Me too. I have driven/ridden around on some utter fucking death traps over the years due to the absurd notion that I was a semi competent home mechanic. Shite tools, shite facilities and no formal training is a poor combination for a safety critical system.

You really think the chimps at Halfords are better than you? Youtube is a goldmine for car mechanic information as are owners forums. One of the few things the internet is good for. Some cunt has usually fucked the job before you so you get fair warning of what can go wrong.
Changing brake discs is hardly big shit. It's just that on a 10 year old car that's never had them changed these seized things happen. Not paying some cunts £500 to change discs as that is literally what I got charged when I had the Hyundai. They'd still charge you more if they fucked the retaining screw and probably make you buy a new hub as well.
The biggest difference in garage equipment is air tools and working with space. Bit by bit you can build up a half decent level of kit. I seem to have lost some when we moved house so need to get some stuff like bearing pullers and tap and die kit etc.
Not quite sure why cars have to be death traps if you fix them yourself, just usually takes 4 times as long. Electronics is the major problem for amateurs now. I changed the steering rack on that Audi and it was fairly easy. I could physically do it on the Mini but it needs some sort of 'calibration' that only Mini can do. There are a few bits on the car that are basically dealer only jobs due to software. I had a physically broken part off the gearbox that's to do with stop/start, replaced it but it won't work until Mini run some software through it. Cunts.

Add to that my wife had her car done by a friend who's an actual BMW mechanic.....she rang me saying we could rear a thumping/vibrating noise and I told her to pull over ASAP. They daft cunt hadn't tightened one of the wheels up! And that's a 20 year pro! Good job he didn't do it as a booked in job and it was an on the side one.
I'm with Pantah on waterworks though. Some other cunt can do it. TBH that's me with DIY in general. I don't like doing it so don't do it. I find cars interesting so will give it bash. I took my mini rear caliper to pieces as I was interested in the way the handbrake ratcheting mechanism worked. Ended up replacing the caliper anyway as it looked a bit dodgy around the seals with corrosion.

You'd have to pretty poor to be buying used cars of me lad. Even people in Rhyl can afford better cars than me.

I spent years trying to build up man points through bikes, army, mma etc but it's all for nothing. They all get cancelled out by my shocking inability at anything DIY orientated.

Lugging heavy building materials about seems like a sure fire way to fuck yourself so I stay well away. It's also potentially more expensive if you fuck your house up. I don't mind fucking the car up as it's just another bolt on bit you need to buy usually. Fucking about with your house walls and structure is too potentially disasterous for me.
Painting shit is about my level. I can do that. Made that arcade machine as well, that was ok. Doing your own extension.....FUCK OFF!

It's not just USA, the first time I changed the pads on a Spanish bike and the pistons slid back in by hand I burst out laughing!
I can do most stuff on my own, and prefer to spend the money on tools rather than paying a pro, but that's only for car and bike stuff not requiring a computer. I tried to install BMW inpa software on a laptop once and ended up fucking the laptop.
House DIY is a no-no though, for a start the tools are just too big!
