So apparently Wiggins is broke now after earning at least 13 million. What do these fuckers do with the money? More so with Wiggins given he's supposed to be miserable cunt that stays in his shed all the time.
You'd think they'd make hay while the sun shone ? Once you're famous you can probably get away with not paying for much either. Wiggins was the face of Skoda, that's free cars. I bet you can get free shit all over the place if you're that famous.

It happens to a lot of footballers. I can only think that some with humbler backgrounds just don't 'get' financial management.

And one hit wonders, I guess it's easy to think that you've got it made when you're riding high!

HMRC are after him. Is he a tax dodger or just missed a tax bill. He split from his wife of 16 years in May. Has this led to extra costs like buying another house and he couldn't pay a tax bill as he didn't have the readies available. I read he is worth $5m. Would anyone with an ounce of financial sense keep large amounts in cash? Does he have £m in investments he can't sell at the moment? HMRC petitioned for bankruptcy but the court rejected that. Why? He isn't broke. www.cyclist.co.uk/news/8509/hmrc-bankruptcy-petition-against-sir-bradley-wiggins-dismissed-in-court

Bet he's wishing he'd gone Froome now and stashed it offshore... And lived there as well.

No other sportsmen fuck up as fast and hard as professional boxers do. In fact it's rare if they have any form of wealth left within a year of their career ending. Mayweather will go broke within the next ten years. Lennox Lewis is a rare exception to have been retired for well over 15 years and still minted.

It's easy to criticise but they're not called life-changing amounts of money for nothing. Your income goes through the roof and your spending does too. I'm sure a fair few lottery winners have ended up driving Tesco delivery vans.
I read a thing recently about wealth and happiness and apparently, once you earn enough to not have to worry about money, that's as happy as you're going to get and no amount of extra cash will make you happier.

I've got a mate who on one hand confirms money doesn't make you happy as he reached his porsche goals and road around the world on a xt but is still miserable. Then again he was miserable when he had a fiat 127 so fuck knows.

I read a thing recently about wealth and happiness and apparently, once you earn enough to not have to worry about money,... That never happens though. People with money usually are worried shitless about losing it. Maybe that's where sports stars go wrong, they don't worry till after they've lost it.

If you are on a low income then you are stressed about paying bills, feeding your kids, etc. If you are worth millions then that comes with its own stresses and probably paranoia about the people who are managing your money, all your new best pals, etc. But if you are at the point of "middle income" where you are comfortable, have everything you need and are not particularly worried about bills but you're not quite Ferrari shopping at the weekend, then that's the sweet spot for happiness.

I get that. The problem then is possibly that people who are "as happy as they are ever going to get" just don't realise it and strive for a level of happiness that isn't there (without being drug induced I mean). I would count myself as being quite close to your "middle income" category, but I personally think that I'd be happier if I could buy a newer bike, pay someone else to clean my house, have a house with a swimming pool etc... That's the sort of stuff that ruins temporary wealth though isn't it? (Except for the house with a pool, I'd expect that to retain a certain value)....

She'd go "never be happy with what you've got because you'd lose the ambition to do better". And I'd reply "but then you'll go through your entire life constantly unhappy..." She was too fucking thick to understand. I'm kind of the same. Modest house but it's (almost) bought and paid for. 11yo car, 9yo bike but I can't imagine wanting more than they offer. Sufficient income to not worry about anything. And I would argue that I'm happiest I've ever been despite significant personal losses in recent years. My ex wife is in a nice new build but you can bet the hole in your arse that she's mortgaged to the fucking eyeballs and will be living payday to payday despite having a decent job. Fuck that. And fuck her too.

I gave up aspirations of wealth long ago when I was realistic with myself that I wasn't wired to climb the career ladder and I hate work of any sort. I not some hippy cunt I just view it as a means to an end.
All my mates as fairly loaded but some of them think I have a better life even I don't have a z4m and BMW bike in the garage? Then again none of them have kids. Weird? A couple of them would have made good dads but seem to keep ending up with wrong women.

I could never get my head round the "if i win the lottery" talk. I've never had aspirations of being a millionaire and have never bought a lottery ticket.
I've only known one lottery winner, i guy i used to work with, in his early forties, wife and young family. Decent bloke. That was about four years ago. He died of cancer a couple of months ago.

The temptation to blow out must be hard to reel in...it also depends on who you’re associating with which, in the case of many boxers, seems to be lots of dubious hangers on as well as mates. I never understand why they need so many people on the payroll, at least that’s the perception I get. Footballers mostly come from modest backgrounds and these days get wealthy at a young age very quickly, you need a strong family to keep you grounded.
As Pants alluded to, makes fuck all difference if you ain’t got your health.
