The Japanese 250\400 market was always throwing up odd looking bikes. Before I past my test, I used to buy Grey Bikes and I changed my mind regarding which bike I was going to buy every month; SDR200, ZX-4, ZXR 400, Katana 400, VFRs, CBRs, TZRs, NSRs, RGVs, Bandit 400, GSX-Rs, Impulse, Impulse XS, R1-Z, RZV500R etc.

Oddly enough Neil that is how I came across it (oh-er!). I looked for rare grey imports on a whim and found that. Never seen one before in a magazine, never mind real life. Probably never will.

I almost bought a ZX-4 (black with red line writing - see below), but ended up getting a VF500F2E instead;  ![]() Should've bought the Kawasaki; the 500 had a great engine (smooth and linear power delivery) and it handled well enough, so it was the perfect first big bike, but the engine was unreliable and it went through 3 cam shafts... did someone mention chocolate? The ZX-4 had a great write-up and it shared many parts with the ZXR400H variants. |

I'm off to look at a Royal Enfield GT 535 later.  Not sure if it's a gay bike though. Probably more of a real ale in a pub that holds 7 people sort of bike. |

Just by looking at that photo I can feel the pain of that kick-starter snapping my sparrow-sized shin bone on the recoil after the eighth failed attempt to start it on a cold December morning. |

Luckily it's also got an electric starter. Bloke hasn't got back to me so may go look at a Husqvarna Svartpilen instead. The Vfr just isn't doing anything for me. I would keep it if I had the room but since the garage got overtaken by spin bikes and turbo trainers then I can only really fit one as the garage extension took away the access to the back garden for a motorbike to live round the back.
Also not sure if can be bothered to buy now as summer is almost done.

Viewed the Enfield, they are like a grey 400 or something in size, thought they'd be bigger but dinky. Very vibraty but what did I expect from a 500 single?
It had a few bits that need a very slight tidy but at 2200 with 5700 on the clock it seems an OK deal. Just not sure if can now go from 150mph to 92mph then again I don't spent that much time about 100 anyway.

Made the cunt an offer (only £50 less than what he wanted as OCD round it down to a 100 number set in) and he said ok. I go to the bog and phone goes. Get back to the phone and he's left a message saying he's sold it someone else that just rang up and offered him the £50 more. FFS!!!!!!Stupid old cunt. Having a shit cost me a bike!!!
