Normally I never ride at night, it's gay and my visor is like a kaleidoscope.
Anyway, rode 20 miles in the dark and the battery was draining with lights on full. Basically the previous owner fitted some light that goes green Amber red depending on charge and it normally fine. Got home on red. Turned bike off to open garage and then bike was totally dead.
Lost my multimeter at the moment. Any ideas?

Have you looked down the back of the sofa?

Wasn't there but I found an old biscuit so I'm happy.

That'll be God telling you not to ride at night until you get a new visor. The "gayness" of night riding is something you and your maker need to discuss.
Heed His advice.

I had problems with a bike that someone had put mahoosive fuck-off 80 million watt high beam bulbs in. But I don't think it was causing battery problems. You need to check your charging system. A 5 quid meter from the Wuhanmart will be alright for basis troubleshooting.

Right.....finally found a multimeter. Battery is maintaining charge with no lights and with sidelights. Soon as I put the main beam on it drops and drops.
What's all that about? I've read some theories about the switch contacts corroding which could cause it? All the bulbs are standard. Just need to fix it to get rid of it.

Sound like f**d battery. Maintaining volts but can't hold current. Sign of a cell or 3 down.

Actually did some testing running. Lights hold voltage around 4k revs. Below thst the main beam takes 2v off on turning on and keeps dropping.
The night it died it was icy so I was top gear low revs so I guess it couldn't charge
