So I'm thinking of trading my Polo in for a Hybrid car...My commute is short enough to do it on electric and there are free charging points at work so I'd never need to use the petrol engine(during the week anyway). Road tax is cheaper and my petrol bill would be slashed big time. One of my work mates bought once recently and is now a convert, lower running costs being the biggest plus.
Anyone on here drive a hybrid?.....

A mate a work has the Hyundai Xiononinininoo thing and he can't fault it from an 'mpg' perspective... 72 mpg combined town and motorway!

My sister has just ordered an MG.... I think she has to wait about 6 months for it to be designed, homologated, built, shipped and delivered... I'll let you know what it's like if she ever gets it!

I've heard good things about the leaf. That BMW looks better though.

Workmate is a total car snob as in, it doesn't exist unless it has an BMW or Audi label on it. He had a ride in a Leaf recently and was genuinely impressed.

If I could afford an electric or a hybrid, I'd have one like a shot. Still think Hydrogen is the future though.

If I could afford an electric or a hybrid, I'd have one like a shot. Still think Hydrogen is the future though. Exactly my feelings. My daily commute and location is perfect for an electric car. I like what I hear about the Leaf , particularly it’s real life ability to out accelerate most cars without looking like a pimp mobile. Get the feeling hydrogen cell technology is being suppressed by the oil industry.

What about these ludicrous battery rental prices? like £70 a month.

Was on my way to work the other night and whilst at the traffic lights as I was about to hit the M25, I got smoked by an electric car. Fucking talk about linear acceleration. Mind you, I reckon if I had deployed the sport button I would have won
Edited to add that it was no sporty car. Some sort of SUV.

I can see a wave of fast accelerating pensioner cars being fired through shop fronts at high speed when Grandma gets the pedals mixed up.

Got to drive a Leaf up to the mountains 2 weeks ago. 210kms each way. It took a bit more time for charging, we stopped twice on the way up, one for a burger, and onece to do some shopping (beer!) Charged it at the reort to about 80% and stopped once on the way home for something to eat.
yes it took a bit longer, but the actual trip was more relaxing in a way. Just remember the 210 kms in Norway in winter takes time regardless. Lots of trafic and windy snow covered roads.
its deffently doable and takes a bit of planning.
The girl who own the car drives mainly to and from work. What she saves in fuel and tolls, pretty much pays for the leasing plan.

Yeah but i don't even spend £50 a month on petrol. £70 a month leasing a battery seems like false economics. I pay £20 a year road tax and get 60mpg anyway. In no world would the outlay make any sense to me and probably most people. Once you add in i actually like driving and most of my commute is b roads it's a dead idea. Give me a stick to stir and engine to rev and FUCk YOU GRETA.

I have to say though, Norway is properly sorted when it comes to electric vehicles and charging stations; during my last visit in 2017, I lost count of the number of Tesla that I saw on the road.

Hong Kong was full if them. 2 problems though. A. They were subsided to half price and 2000 got sold, the took the subsidy away and sold 30 the next year. B. Power generation in Hong Kong is dirty and the cars effectively pollute more than petrol.

Most of my driving is to/from work ....15kms max each way. Free charging at work. Makes sense. Looking at a 2nd hand Golf GTE.
