GPone is saying Melandri is calling it a day at the end of the season. TBH, he's not been right since his 2012 collapse when he fell off 4 times in a row giving Biaggi the title lead.
Still he was a hard charger at times but often a complete twat when it came to passing etiquette. Not one of the best of the best but a solid Barros/Edwards level rider.

Doesnt surprise me in the least. A career a lot of riders would bite your arm off for but he did turn a bit twatish at the end. It must be a real pisser at Donington when Baz scores 28 points on his Ten Kate Yamaha with very limited experience of the bike and you score just 8. Although, he didnt put it like that www.worldsbk.com/en/news/2019/Marco%20Melandri%20announces%20retirement%20at%20end%20of%202019“The decision to retire was a very difficult one for me to make”, Melandri has admitted today. “I'd been thinking about it for some time and, before the Imola race, I finally decided to call it a day at the end of the 2019 season. I'm still competitive and I think it's better to stop at this point, while I still enjoy racing, rather than waiting until the enjoyment and the results are more difficult to achieve”.

When he was on it, he was the business. He'd been in semi retirement for ages if the truth be told.

Seems like Toprak Raz will be Melandri's replacement at Yam.
He's mega pissed off that Kawasaki didn't let him ride in Suzuka, despite being there at their request.

More easy days for Rea then unless Yamaha can squeeze out some more power. I wonder if this talk of Rabat being with Rea also made him think the factory seat wasn't there?
