That VF 1000 might sound great, but when I had my FZ a mate had one and we swapped bikes for an afternoon. Got to say that it was the most underwhelming bike I had ever ridden except for an XJ Diversion 600, no sense of speed whatsoever. Maybe there was something wrong with it, but I was glad to get my FZ back.

When I was doing Bott racing back in the day they ran the early version of the Rotary Norton because it was eligible under BEARS regs. At Snett I got the holeshot and lead till about 3/4 down Revitt straight. Then the Rotary flew past me about 20 mph faster. then fired flames at me through the Esses and Bombhole. Fuck, I nearly jumped off my bike. What an amazing noise those things made, still my fave bike sound, just eclipses a TZ750 on pipe and the RC30.

Who was the rider then? I forget his name but he never rode it in the more established championships.

Malcolm Heath. Crighton built the bike as a lunch time special with no help from the management, until is started doing good then they jumped on the bandwagon. That was the time Norton was run by his oiliness Phillipe Le Roux, Amber Rudd and her father were involved too. A right bunch of dodgy robbing toffs they were.
