Got the fairing off the VFR, nothing much to be done, looks solid really apart from alloy fuzz.
Anyway my radiator is full if you pull the main cap off but the reservoir is bone dry. I looked in my handbook and it says reservoir should be checked at normal operating temperature. Being a thick cunt here but do I need the bike running for it find it's level or whatever? Or have I got ..
A)airlock of some sort B)actually low on coolant, get some in you stupid twat.
It's cold and windy at the moment so no starting the bike up until I can open the garage door.

Unless you want to become a statistic, some form of ventilation is generally a good idea But yes, start the bike and let it get up to about 80°C and check the reservoir coolant level. Keep an eye on the level a it does this though; if no coolant appears then there might not enough be enough in the system or there is an airlock. On my GSX-R, the bleed nipple is handily placed behind the cylinders, which means I need to unscrew and hinge the fuel tank out of the way

Never had an airlock in a bike cooling system. Possible of course, but not as common as in cars.
My bet is on simply a low coolant level. When you run it and it warms up you may find that some coolant will go into the header tank, but I doubt it will be enough to bring it to the level required.
But keep a close eye on what happens after you top it up. If its spitting out the coolant from the header tank, you will want to find out why....

I've no idea how old the coolant is. May be an idea just a dump it and start again?

If it's more than 2 years, drain it off and refill!

Bought some more tonight. Just going to do coolant, air filter and oil and call it a day. Maybe a tiny bit of play in head bearings but nothing else wrong. Oh, clutch needs bleeding and then back together it goes.
Getting too near decent weather to be fucking about in the garage.

Always worth getting concentration and type of coolant absolutely right (silica free type is usually recommended by Honda), it generally does a lot more than just cooling, has to inhibit corrosion in the engine and also lubricate water pump seals.
