I was leaving York hospital this morning and the mobile van was in the 40 just before you get to 60 (usual tactic) and was in a dream world and didn't pay much attention and actually started to accelerate a bit towards the 60. Probably doing 45-47 at max but here's the question.......
What's the nearest these things can get you at?
I'm interested as got faster to it the nearer I got, so when they can get you from miles away I'd have been doing the limit. I know they use a long lens of some sort and from my photography days you'd fill the field of capture at some point and eventually be too big. Hopefully he only followed me initially at lower speed and had a massive fixed lens.
Downloaded a GPS app for the phone so I'll check how my speedo lines up with the real world but I think it's pretty accurate given those 'your speed' signs some places have.
Can't seem to find anything googling as all everyone goes on about is how far they reach.

The common assumption is the speed limit + 10% + 2mph; so for a 30 limit that would be 35mph, a 40 limit would be 46mph, a 60mph limit would be 68mph etc

Guess if they were targeting speeders just before they hit the 60mph limit for maximum results they would set up their kit for that. You're fucked. I saw a news TV slot on police cameras and they were on about the other end of the range, it looked like they had used a Canon 100-400 zoom. So plenty of room for the shorter end.

Hmmmm....got one of those in the cupboard under the stairs.
Put a GPS app on my phone on the way home and my speedo isn't way out as I was hoping. Maybe 1mph. Oh well, wait and see.
Ironic given I was just getting the all clear from the eye clinic and my eyesight is pretty much perfect.

£100 and a safety course is most likely scenario.

£100 and a safety course is most likely scenario. Points?

Not if you take the course. You can only do the course every 3 years though or it's points if you've already done one in that time frame. Did one about 8 years ago so I'll take that option.
