At my mum's for lunch on 23rd... and that's it so far. We would normally travel to Bradford to visit my wife's family, but her mum is having treatment for leukaemia and her brother's wife is having treatment for breast cancer. They are both feeling rotten, so everything is up in the air. My sister is a midwife and is working over Christmas and my wife had a falling out with my brother's other half; fun times... not!
Just seen this...Hope they get well soon

The good news is that both cancers were caught very early, so there is a good chance that the treatment will be a success. Treatment seems better these days for a positive outcome. Catching any signs of cancer early these days is key and the likelihood of survival post treatment is much, much greater. Since my dad, cousin, several friends and co-workers passed away over the last few years from various forms of the disease, I have become a lot more vigilant... ... regularly check your nuts, arm pits, your man breasts etc when you have a shower for unusual lumps and bumps; keep an eye on that lingering cough; be mindful when you're passing urine or stools for discomfort or blood. Above all, if you're worried about something which is unusual for you and your body, for god sake, talk to someone and see your GP; DON'T PUT IT OFF!

I apologise for being a bit preachy there, but men are notorious for putting things off when it comes to medical matters.

Not me mate, I watched Bowel Cancer eat away at my father so i'm in for regular check ups, Infact was at Hospital last week for pile troubles, the way the Doctor examined my chute reminded me of the way I scrape the dregs from a yoghurt pot with my finger, plus would have been better if his finger had been warmer. Too much information I know but hey ho, ha ha.

Fuck cancer and disease for xmas. My old dear has just been through months of lymphoma treatment but it's apparently done and dusted according to the specialist.
Hopefully everyone else gets the same resolution.

To be honest, as I am in no shape or form a religious person, Christmas is a non-event for me; especially since my dad passed away. That just reinforced my belief that if a God or any other make believe character existed, then he/she wouldn't have taken such a kind, strong and morally grounded man away from us in one of the most painful and heart breaking ways imaginable.
When I was with a previous partner, to whom Christmas was everything, I used to get pretty stressed out trying to buy the perfect gifts for everyone.
I'm now with someone who really couldn't care less, so I'm far more chilled out these days and only make an effort for our boys; but we don't go overboard. Meaningful celebrations like birthdays and anniversaries hold more importance.
As I said, religion is a foreign concept to me, but I don't begrudge others who want to celebrate Christmas for what it is supposed to represent, not this commercialised shame which has been pushed on us by the commercial sector.

I agree but 'the festive period' is something I like because every fucker is around at the same time and is mainly in a decent mood.

I hate religion in general and all it stands for (except for some Taoism / Buddhist type teachings, but even they get too fanatical), but don't forget that this period of festivities was celebrated well before anyone made up the story of little baby Jesus. I prefer to think of it more in the pagan way of celebrating the midwinter and lengthening of the days again.
Or just as an excuse to spend two weeks pissed up.

I look forward to the time off and catching up with a few mates and family, but that's it; I'm not sure if that qualifies for being in a "festive mood" or not.

Happy Christmas to all of you. If any of you are alone on Christmas day, pm me and I'll skype chat with you or give you a call. To be honest I've enjoyed a few Christmas days on my own in the past. Not to be sniffed at

Happy Xmas to you all. Got a copy of Detroit become human for the PS4 and some A-ha tickets.
My lad is all video gamed out but that's all he wanted this year. He's into assassins creed but it's not a bad thing as he's now also into the history of the periods and does a lot of reading.
