Very clever stuff out and about.
During the summer in Brighton I saw a chap on a skateboard and thought he had the wind behind him as he went up an incline. My lad explained it was a 'remote controlled' battery powered one.
Couple of weeks ago I got smoked by what I initially thought was a pro on a mountain bike. My LBS even has electric road bikes now.
Today I saw a fella on a scooter burning up the cycle lane.
Its bloody impressive really.

Anything that's other than an electric assist bicycle up to 250w is illegal. If it's got an electric motor, be scooter or skateboard of whatever is classed as a motorised vehicle. It won't catch on like American where it seems a lot looser. Stick an powerful electric motor with throttle on a bicycle and you need a licence for a moped.

I know. Sooner or later so there will be so much out there though.

I have also noticed more electric cars passing me on the bike. Funny old noise.

A tesla went past me and i was surprised how much noise tyres generate. Overall the car wasn't much quieter than petrol.

Yay! Let's ditch fossil fuels*
*But open hundreds of mines in third world / developing countries to extract metals for the batteries!!
We are all fucking stupid if we think that this is the solution.

Not getting into the whole oil vs electic thing. Bottom line is we consume too much... Back to eskates. Guy in the states makes fwd 50mph racing setups. A guy I know has done 63mph on one! They race them at lower speed though. As for fats on ebikes, the actuly fintnes gain is quite high, a lot higher than thought initially.

The potential for some of it is really interesting but it's already been used by bottom feeders. Just go on youtube and chavs are banging powerful electric motors on MTBs and doing 50mph. There are enough dickheads on mopeds without this getting out of control.
I've seen one guy on youtube who's clearly mechanically gifted but his bike handling skills are terrible and it's going to cost him soon if he builds stuff faster and faster.

Right. Today, I saw a scooter (stand on style not a mod one) whizz past while stuck in traffic. I caught him up where the cycle lane runs along a faster stretch. He was doing 27mph(ish) on the flat. I'd be sprinting on my bike to do that in the dry but it was wet and raining. Sensible fella: he had a full m/c helmet on.

In my limited experience, the Renault Zoe makes noises quite reminiscent of 1970s sci-fi films.

Over here things are getting a bit out of control I reckon. Maybe it's the same everywhere.
I regularly see people on various electric vehicles either on the roads, cycle lanes or wherever they please really. Most of them wear no protection, and a lot of them appear to be going really quite fast. Near me there is an electric scooter tuning shop already, I reckon they are getting some pretty decent speed out of these things with a bit of tweeking.
They have no number plate, can go down footpaths, between bollards or whatever so fear of being stopped by the police is low. And considering that the extent of vehicle policing nowadays is pretty much restricted to speed cameras, it's a bit of a free for all.
Actually, as I type this and reflect on it, I'm beginning to think I'm missing out....
In 5 years time when they all have to have number plates, insurance, helmets etc, we will look back at 2019 / 2020 as the golden era when you ride whatever you wanted wherever you wanted ....

Was in Seville last week, plenty of dudes riding around on the roads and footpaths eScooters. Looks like good fun to me but I wouldn't be riding one on the road, that's asking for trouble. The cycle lanes here in NL are ideal though...already plenty of eBikes in use here for years.
