My mini is still soldiering on but I'm looking for spend 5-8k on something else but it doesn't have to be that practical this time round. Given up on vans as they all have about million miles on them and I have no idea what I'm buying. Been thinking mk2 TT, Scirocco or Peugeot RCZ. The RCZ is probably the gayest of them but I like it. It's also the cheapest with ones with less than 50k going for 6-7k

Something with a big boot and a towbar.
Stop thinking of hairdressers' cars.

So you’re after a 3 door of some description?….reduces your options a bit.
P.S. I’d stay clear of any Peugeot.

The Scirocco is probably the sensible choice. It's still got proper rear seats.
Outside bet is a Toyota GT86 but it seems like you can get a bad one which may be very bad and very expensive. They are also very cheap on the inside and made of plastic tat.
I was looking at Mk2 Golfs but you tend to have good ones that people want 10k+ for or sheds people have done half a job on.

I like the look of that Peugeot though.
Why not an MR2?

I still need to occasionally stick a child in the back. If that wasn't a problem I'd probably get a Z4.
The other problem I'm finding is most of the dealers are cunts. You find something, google the seller and they seem like the world's dodgiest cunt with loads of shit reviews. People don't want to buy private but most private people don't know the shams of the trade. At least with the internet now you can find out that DV Autos is the same bunch of cunts that used to be GW Autos and then Supercars the year before or whatever.
I'm in no rush I guess so I'll find the right one when it appears. Gone a bit cold on the ZX4R. I read a review and didn't realise it has even less torque than a ZXR400 and almost half of what my GSXR has and doesn't weight any less.

Maybe a tdi scirocco is the answer. The 1.4 petrols are either piss weak or not hot enough. This said I think they do a weak 140hp tdi as well at the 170hp ones that probably remap to 200.

I'm surprised that's not in the max tax bracket. Odd that something like a Hyundai coupe 2.0l is dirty enough to be in the max bracket. Mazda rx8s are also in the top tax bracket which would explain why they cost peanuts.
May bust the budget as there's a Scirocco for 8500 but only 51k on the clock. Full leather and blah blah blah.

Went to see a Scirocco today. It just didn't grab me in the flesh. It was metallic blue 2.0 TDI with 55k on the clock but it was pure uninspired plastic on the inside.
Think I'll cross the Scirocco off the list tbh. Did see an old BMW 120d m sport coupe on eBay for 3500 in a really nice metallic red. They are looking a bit old style wise now but this thing is immaculate and only 77k. Probably a really good car. Rwd as well.

I owned a MkII Scirocco (86?) for 13 years. It wasn't without its faults but was generally a very decent car. Essentially a sporty hatchback Golf GTI. The modern Scirocco is extremely uninspiring by comparison. A disappointingly bland car that threatens the legacy of the original. No idea what they're like to drive but they look shite and that's enough.

My F-reg scirocco was awesome. Apart from the bit when I smashed it pieces and got done for dangerous driving. Fucking sciroccos.
Looked at a couple of RCZs today but pictures online often look better than reality and they were sheds in real life.
Trying to stay within about 50 miles to buy but I may have get on a train somewhere to get what I'm after.

More ultragayness. I went to look at an SLK......
The car is underpriced by a large margin. It's also got a small roof leak. Apparently if you take it to a Merc garage they only offer you a new roof...at about 4k.
The solution after reading internet forums and watching YouTube could be a simple as relubing and hydrating the rubber seals or blowing drain holes out.
Tempted to take the risk.
