Both will be making about 82hp. Once screaming as fuck the other a bit more torquey. They both seem to be about the same £8700 price point. As a pure road bike I'm guessing I'd go for the Suzuki. For the track I'm not so sure. When I did Cadwell on the SV I had a bit of a misconception I'd be using that low down torque but was I fuck. I thrashed the fuck out of it and it stayed between 7-11k at nearly all times. Once I got going anything under 6 was a case of fucking the gear up for the corner. I imagine the ZX4 is going to be the sharper of the tools on track which you think looks better?

Until you have a test ride on both, you'll never know. As you say, just going by power and engine configuration alone, I would say that the 8R would probably be a better road bike, but it all depends on what you're looking for!
Are you thinking of buying either of them, or is your question just for shits and giggles?

How much overbore can you squeeze out of the ZX4 block?
And whats with that rear shock linkage? Looks a bit too "ER-6N" for my liking...
That 8R image doesn't show a lot of detail TBH, is it real or a render?
Let's be honest, neither of them have been designed as superbikes for the road like the old 750s and 1000s were, so its just a bleak dim wintery future for sportsbikes that will accompany us into our old age.
They don't make 'em like they used to.
I remeber when all this was fields.
etc etc ad infinitum
(Sorry for the rant but I clocked up 50 years last Sunday and am feeling old)

I am actually considering them. I've been hording money for while but the state of my parents and what they've got left which is going down the drain in care fees is making me think just spend it all on shite.
Not buying brand new though. I want to see some reviews and give a few months for anything bad to pop up.
Like Ducatis but they seem potentially expensive to keep running.
I clocked 50 earlier this year. It is sort of a weird point. Hard to keep the odd thought of it's all downhill from here creeping in as you realise you've gone well past the half way point. I do get your point about the older sportsbikes. Especially the 90s stuff, it was about going fast on the road as much as the track. A modern R1 is pure race bike.

Now, if Suzuki brought out a GSX-R800...!

The 8R shades it on looks for me but they are radically different photos. I think the cleanness clinches it.

Money seems to be making me more of a stingey cunt. I've got enough spare brass to buy anything new apart from homologation specials but I'm still looking at £2k shitters on ebay. FFS.
I think part of it is I have shit luck and no doubt if I'll drop in the garage or something daft. The other part is I don't think I'll go any faster on whatever it is I buy so I can't be arsed at the moment. The only thing I've still got ticking about in my head is SV1000 or Tuono. I did see a nice 748 for good money the other day but I thought it's too good for my hamfisted ownership and deserves better.
Completely gone off the ZX4R thing since I saw something running the old ZXR400 against it around a track and the old bike handled better and got a better laptime. THAT'S PROGRESS!!

I quite like the new Yamaha XSR900 GP. It's got a bit of a YZF 90's vibe.
