My old fairing obviously had those indicators that sit 'on' the fairing but over the recess. I got some off ebay, same shape but they are smaller and are literally sitting in the recess and only sticking out a bit. I can't seem to find any concrete wording on indicators like there is headlights and how they can't be obscured.

I think that as long as they are the required distance apart, plus visible from the front and rear, then they should be alright. There might also be colour issue!

The colour is ok but they sit quite far into the fairing. I'm not sure how visible the tester will think they are from the front view. I've only a loose panel in place at the moment to sort of test fit.
May get some more to avoid failure.
