OK this is a bit of a saga so I'll do it in multiple posts to make it easier to read.
For the last 5 years I've fucked off to Thailand for a few weeks in the winter. This year was a bit different. First off, flights are currently extortionate. The usual 2 leg trip with Qatar/Emirates from Edinburgh/Glasgow that used to cost £600 - £700 has more than tripled in price which left me looking for alternatives and ending up with a four leg palaver using 3 airlines booked through a complete shower of cunts called Kiwi.com. It still cost more than double what I was used to paying.
The itinerary was as follows: -Glasgow to Rome with Jet2 -Rome to Dammam (Saudi) with Wizz Air -Dammam to New Delhi and then on to Bangkok with Indigo Airlines.

The first potential flashpoint was in Rome where I had a mere 2 hours to clear passport control, collect my bag, re-check it with a different airline and get back through security. Would I have enough time?
The second one was Saudi. Did I need a visa to pass through the airport? I phoned the Saudi embassy in London and was assured that I did not as long as I was there for less than 12 hours and did not leave the airport. "Are you sure?" I asked, "I will need to recheck my bag with a new airline so will need to pass through passport control." He repeated his answer. Unconvinced and at the risk of really pissing him off I asked a 3rd time using clear, concise and very small words and got the same answer.

Rome: A 20 minute delay leaving Glasgow just tightened up the old sphincter that wee bit more. Despite that, I managed to get to my boarding in Rome with seconds to spare to find some Indian guy kicking off with the wummin on the desk. It went on for ages but, oddly, instead of calling security they let him board. There was further aggro on the plane and eventually he was escorted off by the Italian polis. Now, fuck knows how but he then found his way onto the tarmac where he was eventually tasered and taken away in an ambulance. Then every bag in the cabin had to be accounted for and this whole sorry affair put the crew over their permitted airtime so we had to wait 90 minutes for a fresh crew. We eventually took off 4 hours late with half the flight now missing their next connection in Saudi. We were compensated for our inconvenience with half a cup of water and a small bag of nuts. On that plane for a total of 9 hours (including 4 on the tarmac) and not offered so much as a fucking sandwich.

Saudi: Saudi immigration were quite simply cunts. They demanded that we all had to pay £105 for a 90 day visa just to pass through the airport. No exceptions. I told the cunts what the embassy had told me but zero fucks were given. Half the flight had a connection and every cunt was fucking raging. And did they fuck us about. "Where did you come from, where are you going, which airline did you use? OK, we will sort it out, the man is coming to see you." Well, after 2 hours of letting us stew the man did indeed come to see us and basically said "pay up or we deport you back to Rome." Every cunt had to fucking pay. The fuckers held half a flight to fucking ransom. I was lucky in that my booking agent managed to rearrange my flights without too much disruption other than an inevitable 5 hour delay. Others weren't so lucky including some with the same agent. One poor cunt had to get another 3 flights which added about 12 hours to what was already a 24 hour trip.

The Moral: I remember when I was at school. The only cunt that got to go abroad for his holidays was the rich kid. In those days a week in Torremolinos was the preserve of the privileged. We have come a long way since then and the world has gradually gotten more accessible to more people. I love travel. For me it's the most fulfilling thing you can do. See other cultures, meet different people and maybe be less of a prick to foreigners when they come to the UK.
This year's travel prices really shocked me. I'm hoping that it's a blip due to Covid recovery, fuel prices, global recession, whatever and that within a year or 2 things will settle down because it would be tragic if travel were to become less accessible. Now, I appreciate that not every cunt can fuck off to Thailand for a month and I feel very, very lucky that I can but that's just the point, 40-odd years ago, Spain was only available to the privileged. The ability to travel shouldn't be allowed to deteriorate.
If you are planning a long haul trip, think carefully about the journey before you click that booking button as many of these fucking operators will not give a refund if you change your mind. If you really need/want to travel then it might be a better option to just pay the money and go with a single (reputable) airline all the way. Most short haul carriers will not feed you for free (or at all) so consider that. And I know that most budget airlines are just shite but will I fuck ever board another Wizz Air flight. The staff were completely unprepared for what unfolded and instead of making sure that their passengers were OK they just ran up and down the plane shouting at cunts for filming the drama out on the tarmac.
And as for Saudi, fuck them. Fuck them all to fucking fuck. Absolute shower of dress wearing cunts and I'll never, ever set foot in their shitehole country again. Condemning an entire nation for the actions of a few goes against everything I believe in but they fucked me off so fucking much.
Right, glad I got that off my chest. I'm off to draw pictures of Muhammad (the prophet, not the cunt who runs my local shop who is actually a very pleasant individual).

It won't get cheaper. The poor are being squeezed on travel. Butlins and Skegness if you're lucky soon. Joe Biden wants to ban gas stoves. This is all for our own good. Greta Thunberg told you all there is no go backing to normal recently. Sorry. Environment first despite constantly importing people from countries that don't require heating to colder northern countries.
Soon all that will be left for the poor is saving a weeks wages to go to Costa for a drink with their diabetes awareness dog.

Well that sounds a nightmare. Fuck travelling through the ME, any of those countries.
Is it just January which was pricey for New Year travel? I just checked direct flights in March with Thai Airways and LHR to BK was £846. From Glasgow with them it was £1302. Id book GLA to LHR separately if they wanted an extra £450.
I've always fancied an offroad tour around the NW, Golden Triangle from Chiang Mai (flying via BKK). January isnt as hot so I would go then, but not if the price was daft. LHR to CNX was £926. Seems ok price wise, last time I looked a few years ago it was around £700 iirc.
I've done little travel since I was made redundant a few years ago, then covid. The price of hotels in the UK seems to have rocketed. I've just sent my passport off to renew, so guess I wont be going anywhere for months.
PS BA fly from LHR to BKK via Doha. £1399. No ta.

Doha is fine Phil. It's a much smaller airport than Dubai so is easier to find your connection. I've never had any dramas there.
I spent half a day on Skyscanner looking at different permutations and very little was affordable. Maybe the time of year, maybe I could have booked earlier but I've heard from other people that it was just too expensive to travel this year.
I was in Chiang Mai last week and it's undoubtedly the best place I've visited in Thailand. Very chilled out for a big city and the cunts couldn't be nicer or more helpful. Surrounding countryside is beautiful too.
The biggest difference in Thailand now is the legalisation of weed. Pretty sure they've done it partly to try and rescue their tourism industry but it's on sale everywhere. For a country that traditionally had severe punishments for any kind of drug use it's quite a u-turn.
Also, I renewed my passport online in October and got it in 6 days. Didn't even pay for fast tracking.

I'm going to wait until it arrives before booking anything, I've heard too many horror stories from people I know. I want to go away mid March.

I travelled a year ago. You had to jump through a few Covid related hoops but there was no significant increase in prices. Maybe the after effects of the pandemic are just kicking in now.

When you go into the photo booth outside Asda, you get your photos and a code. You use the code when you're completing the online application. I couldn't believe how quick it was. Not sure it's so fast if it's your first passport or if you leave it until late April like every other cunt.

So the moral of the story is, pay up for a reputable airline or risk getting well and truly shafted. The older I get the less I "enjoy" flying, it's just a hassle but a necessary evil.

Not sure it's so fast if it's your first passport or if you leave it until late April like every other cunt. I did it online like that. Easy. The worst part was having to go to the PO to send my old passport off recorded delivery. Poole used to have 2 PO, a large main branch and a smaller one in a shop near the bus station. They just have one now, in WH Smiths, 3 tills open. I went earylish, just before lunch time. Old codger was on a go slow, the newbie trainee was thick as, the other lady was dealing with a parcel the PO had lost for ages. The 'manager' was doing something else in the background, as the queue built up. 2 old biddies were moaning loudly like fuck about how long it was taking. The a postie came in to collect some parcels as was banging on to the others there about how we needed a GE and new government etc. Old biddies had a moan about him as well, just get on with your job etc By the time the old biddy in front of me got to the till it was noon and the old codger just put the till closed sign up in front of her and went for his lunchbreak. I'm certain he had heard her loud moaning and waited for her to be next before going The 'manager' took over, the old biddy moaned, then asked for a gift voucher and a book of 4 stamps. That was it. Fuckin twat. 20 minutes queuing from something you could get at the WH Smith counters. At least my passport got to Bootle next morning.
